Our team is ready for you! Chiro, PT, RMT are up and running with all the necessary precautions in place. My guess is RMT is going to book up pretty fast - I think we all need a solid massage with Stephanie Van Erp. https://youtu.be/bVLxxLq8oWI

All aspects of parenting need to be considered when setting families up for success and minimizing adverse childhood events and parental mental health. Interesting approach France!

WE ARE VERY CLOSE! PTs have been given the OK to start live clinic visits again - with lots of smart precautions. Check the post below for a few more details. For now, ONLINE booking will be suspended to allow appropriate scheduling around cleaning and still allow you to choose the appointment length you need. Please be patient with us. Many of us with small kids can't come back full time so there are some limits for now. I'm excited to see some smiling eyes over our masks!

A worthy little refresh on the notion of self care.

The Curse of the Cough! Allergies, Colds, Coronavirus - whatever the cause, persistent coughing can impact more than just the lungs - your ribs and pelvic floor are often impacted too. I've shared my top few tips for making it through the cursed cough with as little collateral damage as possible!

A great couple I know created this huge sign to thank those working at the fire hall across from their house...so many people were interested in a copythat they are making them available as a charity initiative for the London and Area foodbank! Check them out www.staysafebekind.ca!

Whether it's allergies or something worse like COVID 19, persistent coughing can create a host of issues from rib pain to incontinence. I've shared a few of my favourite tips to minimize the impact. Reach out if you have questions or are experiencing this! (PS...this also applies to sneezing!)

Here we are in week 2 of near total social shutdown. We are all a bit anxious, bored, frustrated and experiencing a host of other emotions. That leads to more numbing of those invisible feeling beasts with coffee, tea, alcohol, sugar and the like. While those may provide brief relief, they aren't great for your mental or, in the case of this post, bladder health! In this video I go through how we can protect our pelvic health during troubling times. If you need to talk this through, I have virtual appointments available!

Early bird deadline fast approaching, only 3 days left! Register now and join the outstanding people in the #PIRL lab as we discuss the very cool new directions we've been taking pain research and practice. And support students while you're at it!

Sometimes you need a comical way to share some education!!!

Angela Growse Physiotherapist 03.03.2020

My heart stands with both Jennifer Broxterman and Karla. I had this same conversation with one of my patients today who kept saying..."I know this sounds weird and everyone seems to think it's not related but... ". All health care providers need to do the work, ask the questions and most importantly LISTEN to the stories shared.

Parents of toddlers this is for you!! Andrea is a game changer. I use her suggestions and scripts all the time with the kids. She guided me through understanding my toddler's brain = less reaction, more empathy and better connection.

Appointments have opened up this week for 30 to 60 minutes on Thursday and Friday! New patients welcome!

Angela Growse Physiotherapist 22.12.2019

Going boldy forward or quietly pondering the depths? I think it's important to do both but my guess is most of us have a greater affinity for one of them. Bodly forward is usually pretty easy for me and has worked to my advantage for a long time. Watching this little one grow reminds me to take time to wonder and spend a bit more time as a "human being" and not just a "human doing".... To keep my Physio practice grounded I am making sure to take more time for creative exploration away from work. Wild writing. Plant care. New exercise formats. Firmer boundaries. All these are little things that allow me to keep my passion ignited for Physio but not let it be all that defines me. 2020...may little sparks everywhere keep the fire sizzling!

I hope everyone has been enjoying some downtime over the holidays. I can't believe this mild weather. We have been outside making s'mores this weekend! I am back in the office Jan 2nd and have openings Thursday and Friday of the following week for those in need of some post holiday self care. ;)

The depths of the pelvis. This area is fascinating to me and it's expanded and enriched my practice in ways I never expected. Sometimes it's really funny. The awkward joke opportunities are endless and patients and I make them together all the time. Other times it's exceptionally deep and vulnerable. If the incidence of sexual assault is 1 in 3 for women in the general population, it's at least 1 in 2 in my practice. That doesn't include the other types of physical and emo...tional trauma men and women experience. I am still learning everyday how to hold space for how this shows up in the body....and most intimately in the pelvis. I certainly didn't come out of PT school expecting to spend my day this way but I am grateful for the challenge to never stop learning!

I admit, I love the team at Precision Nutrition. This post is especially insightful and honest. So much has changed since I graduated, from hard and fast rules to ... "actually we don't know the exact mechanism by which we create change but we can find one that works for you". Hands off vs. hands-on care, acupuncture, movement re-education, up train, down train, ride the train? The point is this: As we know better we do better. ... In so many cases it's all about tailoring it to whomever shows up in front on you. Lots of days I feel like a "traditional" hands-on Physio, then there are those days where I mostly listen and hold space. The one thing I am constantly modifying is the language I use. Do the words I use to help you understand what I think is going on cause more fear/anxiety/pain - or less? Do you feel empowered or helpless and dependent? Every day I learn something new about the way I practice from the way my patients respond. When that stops, it's time for me to stop.

Speaking of the BOD POD for my people who delight in data - a sale from NutritionRx!

Angela Growse Physiotherapist 04.10.2019

Lots of my clients love data. It motivates them, it gives them ideas to play with and goals to challenge. I work with lots of data like bladder diaries, endurance challenges, load challenges like burpees or heavy lifting without leaks - all great metrics to play with to direct rehab. Lots of people want body composition data - I don't do that but I have friends who do! If you haven't heard of the BodPod it is a highly accurate method of body composition testing. NutritionRx has one and has spots available in December and January. Really interesting! http://www.nutritionrx.ca/service/body-composition-testing/
