What crate do you use for your dog? There are good uses for both of these tools, but our dogs all have the hard plastic enclosures instead of the metal wire crates. Why do we prefer plastic crates over metal wire cages? ... There are many reasons! First we can look at one of the key reasons why most dog trainers encourage crate training: to provide a sense of security for your dog. Regardless of the changing external environment outside that crate (dinner parties, moving homes, loud vacuums disturbing the peace), dogs can rely on their crate to be a safe haven from the many things that stress them out. When a dog is in a metal wire cage, we find that anxiety can develop because of the easy access any predator/threat has to your dog. On the other hand, a plastic crate with that metal wire front door provides shelter and literally blocks out a potential predator/threat from all angles except that front door. Many pet owners believe that the crate may feel suffocating to a dog in the same way it would feel suffocating to humans, but dogs are denning animals - the enclosure provides a sense of protection and familiarity! Tell us how you use your crate! Do you use a hard plastic or metal wire? #dogtraining101 #dogtrainingtips #dogtrainingrevolution #dogsofinstagram #dogstagram #dogtrainer #dogtraining #dogsworld
