Long Point Tours 11.01.2021

Dear Valued Customers, As you may or may not be aware, Long Point Tours did not operate in the 2020 season due to complications as a direct result of Covid-19. We think 2021 is going to be a real comeback year for our little boat tour operation on Long Point Bay, but first we want your insight and feedback. Before we start planning the 2021 season, we want to know what you think. We look forward to viewing the results of this survey to find out what we could do to better imp...rove your experience with us. For all that choose to participate, please note that this survey is completely anonymous. We don’t want filtered results; we want the truth! For those who have decided to take this survey THANK YOU we really appreciate the feedback! To take the survey click on the link below https://www.allcounted.com/s?did=goom79lx8m491&lang=en_US

The End of an Era An update from the Tip of Long Point Record high Great Lake water levels have wreaked havoc on shoreline communities, particularly on Lake E...rie. Nowhere have the impacts of high water and storms been more evident than the Tip of Long Point. More than three-quarters of the land from our traditional monitoring area has disappeared underwater, endangering all of our research facilities. Infrastructure at the Tip of Long Point, and therefore LPBO operations, has a complex ephemeral history coinciding with Lake Erie water levels, shifting sand dune formation, and storm events, all of which drive the natural succession processes of Long Point. More than 15 buildings, including seasonal residences, lighthouse, storage facilities, and other structures have once existed at the Tip over the past 200 years. For the last 25 years we have been primarily operating out of the last remaining Lighthouse Keeper’s House and large utility building affectionately known as the ‘block building’. Last fall, Lake Erie decided that the time for both of these buildings had come, and we were forced to make the difficult decision to abandon these facilities and begin the process of rebuilding the research station farther west. On September 21, after 35 years nestling families of lighthouse keepers, and another 25 of sheltering our long-suffering volunteers and staff, the old Lighthouse Keeper’s House came down. It was a difficult decision, but doing so now allowed us to do so in a safe and controlled manner without any unnecessary debris making its way into the lake. Luckily we still have our trusty Tip Cabin which will allow us to maintain our operations out there, although it too is a little precarious. We have great plans to continue our work at the Tip in a safe and enduring manner. Please consider supporting our Birdathon, which allows the observatory to maintain our operations during these extraordinary times. Thank you! https://www.canadahelps.org//the-canu/captain/the-canucks/ Birds Canada Long Point World Biosphere Reserve

March is here and it's time to start thinking about migration! Time to start thinking about checking off that Bucket List and taking a unforgettable tour to the end of Long Point. Never a bad day in the spring to be out in Nature looking at where the wild things are!

In the face of record high water levels on Lake Erie, a bird observatory makes its last stand. Show your support here - https://www.canadahelps.org/dn/25095 #birdobsunited #longpoint

Wow! Flashback from the early days out at the #tipoflongpoint - sure doesn’t look like this anymore - #Longpoint is in constant change - wonder what it will look like in 40 years! Tours still going strong #triptothetip of long point - book with @longpointecoadv today

What a difference! High waters have taken away so much of the point #Longpoint #tipoflongpoint - seven years ago there was at least another 600ft left at the end. It shows over time how it changes, one day it will be longer again but for now it’s beautiful to see nature at work! @longpointecoadv @norfolktour

Most common liter found on the Tip of #Longpoint ~ helium balloons - please don't release them they are toxic for the environment and do not biodegrade

Another view of the famous splash pool effect at the Tip of #longpoint on a windy day! A power reminder of a landscape that commands respect! Here we have a strong NW wind causing a strong current on both sides of the point. ~ On a side note, the #tipoflongpoint is about 200ft shorter than it's been in recent years - wondering when the lakes levels will drop? #longpointtours #longpointbeach #longpointlighthouse
