The "invisibility" of ADHD in women can lead to terrible emotional consequences.
I often hear from my clients that they, "can't do math." So much shame and humiliation are connected to their apparent inability to do basic math skills. Often when tested, students with ADHD excel at conceptual mathematics, but basic computational math like multiplication and division, eludes them. Here is a great article that helps to explain many of the complex processes that are involved in learning math, and how ADHD and Math Learning Disabilities often occur together.
Great article on working with twice-exceptional students.
Great article about what’s going on in the teenage brain, and why there is no one size fits all approach to parenting a teen.
Disorganization and time blindness are amongst the visible symptoms of ADHD, but are rarely what bring people into my office for coaching. Emotional disregulation is a VERY REAL consequence of ADHD and understanding the science of self regulation is key to improving quality of life.

There is a significant difference between self control and self regulation. Once we learn to reframe "misbehaviour" as "stress behaviour" we become more attuned to what our children/partners/friends are showing us about their feelings and experiences through their actions. From there, we can begin the journey of shifting them from a negative shame based personal bias, to a positive self advocacy bias. First, it begins with reframing our own views and uncovering the beliefs and biases we hold around behaviour.
So many of my clients suffer from sleep issues. This program is currently researching behavioural interventions for children with Neuro Developmental disorders and co-morbid sleep problems. Check it out! http://ndd.betternightsbetterdays.ca
Such good advice for all of us.
One of the most common complaints I hear from my clients is that they struggle to regulate their emotions. This article talks about the research now being done to better understand why this symptom occurs with almost 3/4 of ADHDers.
