September 30, 2021, marks the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to reflect, commemorate and heal. To honour this day, your Métis government... encourages Citizens to spend time with family and friends, in community commemorations or quiet reflection of the history, legacy and journey of the Red River Métis Nation Homeland. #MétisNationHomeland #RedRiverMétis

We received a submission for the What It Means To Me To Be Metis contest from Diane Burelle. Diane had this to share about the inspiration for her poem: I trie...d to capture my profound sentiments of how proud I am of our Métis ancestors, and our Métis Nation, which has seen unprecedented progress in recent months for full recognition of our rights, our heritage. I captured Louis Riel’s words to remind us of the betrayals, the discrimination, the theft of our lands (1.4 million acres were stolen from the Métis Nation), and the resilience that was needed to survive such losses. Louis Riel’s words also remind us of the hope and the resurgence of our Métis Nation as we continue to fight for truth and reconciliation to remedy these past wrongs. See more

We received this submission for the contest from Courtney Sawatsky titled Meeting Medicine. Courtney had this to share about her submission: To me, being Méti...s is strengthening the bonds of culture that tie one generation to the next. To be connected to the earth and live in reciprocity. My twins, Aurora and Everett, are seen in orange ribbon shirts to honour the survivors of residential schools, day schools and other religious schools. We use Sage to purify ourselves and to move through life in a good way. In this four part photography series you see them handling sage that I harvested for them. See more

We received a submission for the contest by Bella Kraska. Her submission is an acrylic painting titled The Red. Bella explained her artwork represents many Met...is; their hopes their faith and their dreams. She shared the following about her piece: In December 2001 Senator Thelma Chalifoux, the Metis Matriarch introduced in the Senate of Canada, Bill #5-35. One of the provisions read: The arrowhead sash is hereby acknowledged as the recognized symbol of the Metis people. If you look closely you will see La Centure Flèche leading to the Red River, The Figure Eight signifying infinity and a protective Wolf representing courage. See more

Today the Manitoba Metis Federation announces the launch of a toll-free Mental Health Wellness Support Line that will operate from 7 am to 11 pm daily, with pla...ns of eventually extending the Support Line to 24 hours a day. The service can be accessed by calling 1-833-390-1041. Though mental health has always been a part of the strategy from Hampers to our wellness checks we have been conducting we now have a dedicated line to support our Citizens, said MMF Minister of Health & Wellness, Frances Chartrand. We hope that with this additional support, Metis Citizens will feel supported and comforted by their Metis Government and access this crucial resource.
