Posted @withregram @ourhealthatlas STOP USING HEALTH AS A COVER FOR BIASES What were your answers to these questions?... Health seems to be the socially acceptable buffer used for countless discriminatory remarks, and they are often made without true understanding of how health can look and manifest differently based on an individual’s life. Your meaning of health may mean something completely different to the person next to you! You are allowed and should live a life based on your own definition of health, and no one should have the power to tell you otherwise. If you needed an affirmation, here it is. You are an empowered individual that isn’t fazed by any diet talk, and who knows exactly what you need to live your happiest and most nourished life. Now tell me, what does health mean to you? #dietsdontwork #ditchdietculture

Running on empty leaves us open to not just burnout and a drought on empathy but it also impacts our mental and physical health. Take time out for you, for your health.

Posted @withregram @em.poweredliving Is it any surprise that constantly telling the body it's "wrong" would make it challenging to tune into what it's saying...? I've heard the comparison of intuition as its own language. We inherently knew it, then it was largely conditioned out of us, and now we have a chance to re-learn! Practicing interpreting our intuition through the body's communication patterns requires: 1. Reducing distractions (nourishing ourselves, developing trust, patience, etc) & 2. Identifying *why* we have been led to distrust our feelings & emotions in the first place (therapy, journalling, questioning external influences, etc). When talking with @nicole.alyssa.morse the other night, I was reminded of the image of a pond. Picture a savage beast trampling through the pond destroying all that is calm & peaceful (ie Diet Culture convincing us that we can't trust ourselves and our bodies are wrong ) The pond becomes murky, muddy, cloudy. The distractions, or muddy particles swirling in the water must settle before clarity can re-emerge. If our bodies are constantly in fight or flight mode because we are starving (*and binge eating qualifies here too because binges originate from a place of previous restriction, either physically or mentally--more on that another time), THE WATER WILL NOT SETTLE AND WE WILL STAY DISTRACTED. We need to first properly nourish ourselves to remove the glaring, life sucking distraction that is obsession over food & body. And "properly nourished" meaning: having enough. And not just "barely enough", not the "least amount of enough that is humanly possible, 'enough' but ENOUGH. sometimes more than enough, which we're taught to feel shame over, but is really no moral failure. Continuing to punish and berate ourselves is the tragedy. Ignoring, Manipulating, and Suppressing our inherent wisdom and the signals our bodies are so desperately trying to send us is the tragedy!! Our bodies are brilliant, majestic, wondrous creations, far more intelligent and adaptive than we give them credit. The process of learning to trust again can be challenging, discouraging, and downright ugly sometimes-- but it's worth it and you deserve it #dietsdontwork #ditchdietculture

Monday morning thoughts....

Your dreams will always be just that a dream unless you begin creating a plan and then taking the first step to get there. Time marches on regardless of what you are doing so why not make the decision to take one first, tiny, step in the direction of the life you deeply desire my loves.

We are far too familiar and perhaps even comfortable with being our own worst critic. We need to change the narrative, it’s ok to accept and like yourself, let the good in!

Time to take an inventory of what brings you peace and calm. At the very least, take notice of what brings chaos, noise or toxicity to your life and reflect on if it’s worth holding onto. Letting go can be scary, it can also be beautiful, transformative and liberating

A great read! And contrary to popular opinion.... Grades and athletic/artistic accomplishments matter, but most of us would agree raising kind kids matters more. If we spend our days drilling math facts and chauffeuring our kids to enrichment activities, it begs the question: What are we prioritizing mostand why, adds Dr. Robin Berman.

Calming Minds Therapy 21.07.2020

So often we want to avoid or ignore our feelings, yet sometimes the only way to truly feel better is to move through the feeling. Denial and avoidance aren’t healing, it’s emotional stuffing - which doesn’t heal anything in the long term.
