2021, we are SO excited to welcome you! Even during ‘normal’ times, I’ve loved this time of yearit always feels hopeful to me: a time to reflect on what has been (the good and the bad) and to dream about all that might be. While I’m not one for resolutions, what I have adopted the past few years is choosing a ‘word for the year’. I try to pick a word that will inspire me as I navigate the coming days of the year, something that will help push me & will hopefully better wh...o I am in both my own life and in the world. This past year has been so hard on all of ustaking a toll on our health, our outlooks, our relationships, and beyond. That said, it’s also provided many opportunities for growth, for perspective, for reckoningoffering & demanding the time, space, and hardship for us to have to push up against, thereby strengthening our grit & resilience. There are always silver linings and there is always hope. ‘Behind the veil of each night, there is a smiling dawn.’ ~ Khalil Gibran I can’t say I’ve aced these past few monthsI started out strong, but somewhere along the way lost my verve, my motivation, my joy. BUT, I’m finally seeing my way through the fog and have settled on my word for this coming yeara word that has already put a pep in my step: INTENTION. My goal: to live and dream and behave: much.more.intentionally. Some personal goals, some business goals, and two really specific dreams I have set my sights onI’m comin’ for ya’! My friends, however you are choosing to enter this new year; I’m wishing you grace, compassion for self & others (hoping for much more of this), and the excitement that comes with pursuing our dreams! xo Lori Photo: sunrise, somewhere over the Amazon, 369 days ago.

2020: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us..." ~ A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens My family rang in 2020 with loved ones on the beach in my adoptive home of Natal, Braz...il...it was a dream. Sadly, those laid back, Brazilian, flip flop, Bossa Nova vibes hit the proverbial global-wall called Covid-19 shortly thereafter... Today, as I reflect on the rollercoaster of this past year, I'm buoyed by how many wonderful things actually happened 'in studio'. There were sessions celebrating graduations, anniversaries, and motherhood; nominated sessions for women conquering illness; marketing sessions for bad-ass business owners; and even a foray WAY outside my typical: an author's shot for my friend, Jon, in the great outdoors! This was also the year that I would be told that The Birthday Book Project was officially dead... from which I would then decide (with a push from my awesome kids) to publish a book of the 53 portraits I shot between 2015-17 for the project. It was a labour of love, I had to learn a tonne (one woman show ), and I'm really proud that, although not as originally designed, I 'gott'er done'! I think many of us may feel like 'whoa, did Dickens have a crystal ball?', but the fact is that every decade has hardships, every generation has to fight its own 'wars', and that what has always been paramount for our good health is to wake each day with purpose and to look for joy & beauty in the little things. (note: I wrote that just as much for you as for me ) I am deeply grateful to all those who have supported my business..whether through hiring me, trusting me, referring me, buying my book '53 Birthdays', to those who like & share my posts, and those who continually show up to encourage me...ALL OF IT is seen, felt, and appreciated. Thank you. I hope that whatever hardships you've had to endure this year, you are finding ways to celebrate the present moment while cultivating your dreams for the future. May 2021 be a beautiful one for all! Happy Holidays...I can't wait to HUG you! xo Lori
