To our Seasonal Campers: Welcome back! We would like to provide an update on the following campground facilities:... 1. Pools Although the province has announced that community pools may open, SCRCA campground pools will remain closed for the 2020 season to protect the health of staff and campers. You may observe staff opening up pools for maintenance purposes. To prevent staining to the plaster and tile and to reduce the risk of mosquitos, pools require opening and ongoing maintenance throughout the season. 2. Horseshoe Pits With the announcement increasing gathering sizes to ten people (with social distancing) we feel it is appropriate to open the horseshoe pits. Staff will be installing hand sanitizer stations at the horseshoe pits. Campers will be required to supply their own equipment. Social distancing rules must be followed. Each campground will determine if enough space exists between pits and may close some pits if deemed necessary. MEDIA RELEASE June 5, 2020 For Immediate Release... St. Clair Region Conservation Authority Overnight Camping Further Delayed The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) continues to monitor the ever-evolving COVID-19 pandemic closely and is adjusting practices and procedures accordingly. Based on the status of the current pandemic, and recommendations by local, provincial and federal health authorities, the SCRCA has further delayed the opening of overnight camping up to and including June 28th. Full refunds will be issued automatically to those with reservations during this time. Greg Wilcox, Manager of Conservation Areas at the SCRCA advised that in addition to following guidelines recommended by local health authorities, the continued delay was required to properly prepare overnight camp sites in the wake of COVID-19. Our staff has been working diligently to come up with solutions and prepare campsites that will accommodate the restrictions imposed by health officials to stop the spread of COVID-19. The seasonal camping season began with restrictions at the A.W. Campbell, Lorne C. Henderson and Warwick Conservation Areas on Friday, June 5th. A number of restrictions have been put in place to promote social distancing and reduce mass gatherings at the campgrounds. Swimming pools, canoe and kayak rentals and pavilion reservations have been cancelled for the 2020 season. Additional restrictions include the cancellation of upcoming camper events and the closure of washroom facilities, play structures and basketball/volleyball courts. SCRCA staff will continually monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and will ease restrictions when it is deemed safe to do so based on guidance from health officials. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the SCRCA has encouraged visits to local conservation areas. Visitors are reminded that they must comply with social distancing practices and other recommendations outlined by local health authorities and the provincial and federal governments. To our seasonal campers. We recognize the start to this years camping season has been disappointing for many of you. In an effort to get the new fees communicated quickly, I have made a mistake in calculation. The loss to the camping season is greater than I had calculated. ... We lost 6 weeks of camping at the beginning of the season, not 5 as used in our calculation. With the 2 week extension to the season, that totals a 20 week season (not 21). Fees are calculated as follows: (20wks x $99.17/wk) - $215 (rebate for no pools) = $1768.40 This is $99.17 lower than originally calculated. As well, the following fee changes will be made based on the 20 week season: Weekly pump outs - $354.20 (reduced by $17.71) Bi-weekly pump outs - $187.60 (reduced by $9.38) Golf Cart Fee - $166.60 (reduced by $8.33) Exterior fridge/freezer - $145.80 (reduced by $7.29) All those who have already paid will receive a refund for the difference in fees. This refund will be sent by cheque. Please let us know if you have moved in recent years and arent sure if we have your current mailing address. The following link will provide an updated seasonal application. link For those who have already submitted their application we will make the fee changes on your application, you will not need to submit again. I sincerely apologize for this confusion and inconvenience. Thank you for your patience.
