Who remembers the Block Parent program as a kid? Who remembers seeing that red and white sign in the neighbours' windows? As a little girl, the concept of it ma...de me believe there were good people out there who would help me if I needed it. I used to feel comforted when I saw the sign because it said to me that someone cared. Today, I sit on the board of Directors for the West Island Women's Shelter because I want do whatever I can to remind victims of conjugal violence that good people are out there and are ready to listen. The SPEAK OUT movement is using the mandatory mask to show up for women and children who are victims of conjugal violence. At the grocery store, the mall, your office - these "signs" show up to drive awareness for the epidemic that is conjugal violence today, and they call on us to use our voices. For every SPEAK OUT mask sold, $10 will go directly to the shelter. Let's show up for our community. Symbols of kindness make a difference.
