TEACHER FEATURE: Miss Erica Growing up I tried many different sports; soccer, swimming, skating, and even martial arts. But in 2011, at the age of 8, I was put in my first dance class at Lorri’s Dance Place. Little did I know that one class would turn into a life-long passion. Dance has taught me countless valuable life lessons, such as learning to overcome any challenge thrown my way, and working at my goals until they become my reality. Lorri and all the teachers I have ha...d throughout my years at the studio have helped me to come out of my shell, and become the person I am today. They say that your teammates become your family, and I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to be a part of the family at Lorri’s Dance Place; a family that will always hold a special place in my heart. The first picture was taken at my first competition back in 2014. I started out as a pre-competitive dancer, and worked my way up to the full-time competitive team. Dancing with a limitation in my left foot and calf, I pushed to achieve the things I was told I would never be able to do. Now that I am on my 10th and final year at Lorri’s, I hope to pass my knowledge and insight onto the younger generation of dancers. I love teaching dance as I get to show my students that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I get to relive those moments watching my students’ faces fill with joy when they get a new move or trick just as I did when I was just starting out. I strive to teach my students to be proud of themselves no matter what they have or haven’t yet achieved because I want to show them that the only dancer you should compare yourself to is the dancer you were yesterday. This was a huge lesson I learned dancing with a limitation, and I believe it is a lesson that every dancer must live by. Ultimately my goal is to provide fun and engaging classes and create a safe learning environment where every dancer is given the opportunity to grow and mature to their fullest potential. In 2021, I am excited to watch my students find their passion for dance and hopefully get the opportunity to showcase their hard work on stage. Stay tuned for more

TEACHER FEATURE: Miss Victoria I teach to inspire and encourage students to be the best versions of themselves they can be. I believe teachers have one of the most important jobs, and with that comes great responsibility. I feel at my best when I am teaching and believe it is my purpose. I am excited to be able to continue on my journey of life long learning and be able to pass on my knowledge and desire to learn to my students. My parents put me in dance when I was 3 in ...order to build some confidence and for physical activity. I'm sure they never imagined that an extra-curricular activity would turn into a life-long pursuit. I am currently in my third year of dance and the concurrent education program at York University where I am studying my two greatest passions -- dance and teaching. In my years as a dancer and now a teacher at Lorri's Dance Place, I have had the privilege of being part of the Lorri's "dance family". The studio was my "home away from home" and my dance family was an integral part of my development. My teachers at Lorri's growing up were always very supportive and encouraging. They are now people I look up to for inspiration when teaching my own classes. I have been part of the LDP family as a student and as a teacher for many years now. As a student and a competitive dancer, the memories of classes, studio time, and competition weekends with friends and teachers will be forever in my heart. The sense of belonging and confidence that my dance education gave me is immeasurable. Being a dancer is much more than choreography -- it has given me a sense of responsibility, taught me time-management skills, and gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams. As a teacher, I love the positive environment at LDP and the love we all share for educating our students. Some of my favourite memories include watching my students grow and become more confident dancers over the years. Stay tuned for more highlights of our amazing teachers

TEACHER FEATURE: Miss Jade Teaching has become a deep passion of mine throughout the years. Being able to share the knowledge I have gained with kids that have enthusiasm to learn/grow is very rewarding. I am thankful that teaching provides me with the opportunity to be a lifelong student. The amount I learn about dance, how dance lives in each individual, and about human beings in general, constantly keeps me reflecting and evolving. Not to mention how much fun it is spendi...ng my evenings creating and bonding with my students who share the same love for dance. Since my first day at LDP I felt welcomed with open arms and treated as family. That feeling hasn’t changed 11 years later. I love being a part of the LDP family because I know I always have great teachers for support when I need it. I have many friends that I have made throughout the years that became my team and my sisters. The memories made will always stay in my heart and bring a smile to my face whenever I think about- the long rehearsals, dancing in the parking lot, and breaks spent in the change room while we struggle to finish our homework because we are just so happy to be back at dance. I love how LDP strives to create an environment that can truly feel like a second home. In 2021 I look forward to getting back into the studio (or zoom) and dancing with all my bright, hardworking students. Stay tuned for more highlights of our amazing teachers

TEACHER FEATURE: Miss Jade My passion for teaching dance is rooted in helping students grow, embracing their individuality and creating a lifelong passion for learning. As an alumnus and teacher, Lorri’s Dance Place is truly a second family to me. Lorri, the entire staff and all our past and present students; will always hold a special place in my heart. My most memorable experiences as an LDP student is touring, traveling and dancing in New York City for our Graduation tr...ip! After graduating, I continued to compete internationally and have most recently won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Champions in Sun City, South Africa and the Gold Medal at the American Tap Championships in Los Angeles, California. These accomplishments would not have been possible without the guidance and mentorship from Lorri. In 2021, I am most looking forward to standing in the audience, cheering on our team and watching you all do what you love most; dancing and performing on-stage again! TEACHER FEATURE: Miss Miranda Sometime nearly 30 years ago (yuck!) I slipped into a pair of ballet shoes and never looked back. I’m so honoured to have had the opportunity to share my love of dance with many generations since then. I love teaching dance and reliving the fond memories that I have of growing up in a space that made me feel so at home. I strive to make my students feel at home when they walk into the studio with me. I want to provide a space that is free of... judgement and encompasses a genuine love for our team, our craft and our process. Being a teacher is beyond fulfilling and I’m so lucky to share with so many amazing young artists year after year. Whether we are laughing, crying, ticked off at our internet connection or sweating it out, I hope that I can leave an impact on my students for years to come- as I assure you, they absolutely do for me. I know that this past year has been a tough one, but I am hopeful that we are on an upswing and will dance together (in person) very soon. I think there will be a completely different appreciation the next time my dancers take the stage and it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it! I am SO excited to finally see them perform again and know how rewarding it will feel to have pushed through these sometimes very dark times. I commend you all for your perseverance and admire your ability to adapt to your new normal- you have truly evolved as not only dancers but people and you leave me inspired every day.

TEACHER FEATURE: Miss Kristin I remember asking my teacher when I was around 11 years old "how old do I have to be in order to teach ballet?" I guess you could say I just always wanted to be a teacher and inspire other children the way my teachers inspired me. The desire to become a ballet teacher lasted throughout my dance years and eventually, after years of hard work, I finally became one. My life has now come full circle. Being a student at Lorri's Dance Place and now g...etting to teach the next generation of students has been almost surreal. I love everything Lorri's has to offer. I feel like we are part of one big family and although dance is what we do, it is so much more. I’ve loved being able to teach all ages of children, both in the recreational and competitive sides. One of my favorite parts of being a teacher is seeing when a student finally masters a skill they have been working so hard at, whether that is a four year old learning to skip or an advanced dancer getting through that challenging exercise they never thought they'd be able to get through. The most memorable experiences I have had as a teacher is getting to watch my students perform on stage. I remember that feeling of being backstage getting ready to dance and having that excitement to get out there and perform in front of friends and family, now I get to experience that all again with my students. What I look forward to the most in 2021 is making new memories and continuing to share my love for dance. Stay tuned for more highlights of our amazing teachers
