A good reminder for a little office yoga not only are you moving differently and increasing blood flow to the cramped areas, you are interrupting habitual sitting /movement patterns so you can get back to it... fresher and intentionally

Child's pose is an excellent restorative pose intended to calm the mind, even your breath, and release tension through your low back, neck and shoulders. Come out to Donna's Yin Yang class tonight and treat yourself to a restful and rejuvenating practice, including child's pose!
The more exposed we are to ideas and expressions of how to achieve natural, healthy posture, the more likely we will have success!! I'm sure I'll be talking tails this week!!

Reading a blog post on Katysays about understanding how we are more than just our parts! In yoga asana we focus on postures and the apparent muscle skeletal connection but there is always so much more going on! We need to think of ourselves in each moment as the sum of ourselves until that moment..... This is what she said that blew my mind "you're a meatball fashioned out of a trillion smaller parts, responding to the ideas in your head, the food in your fridge, the air in your lungs, the people in your day planner, the orientation of your body and the number of emails in your inbox" we are all meatballs!

Borrowed this saying from On The Mat in Fort Erie, isn't it fantastic?!! Looking for a class to fit your schedule this fall? I am teaching evening classes at GSS. Check it out in the DSBN "Learn Explore Discover Fall 2015" booklet or http://www.dsbn.edu.on.ca/community under interest courses. It's always a great group!... It will be on Tuesdays, beginning October 20 - Yoga at 6:30-7:15 and Body Positive Yoga (great for beginners!) at 7:30-8:45. Also, Gentle Hatha Yoga is available Thursday evenings beginning October 15 at 6:00-7:15 I will also be teaching class at Craving Health, Dietician and Wellness Services on Ontario St at 5:30 on Mondays, come create a little heat and then enjoy the quiet awareness of that energy in my Yang Yin class! I would like to run Restorative classes on a Wednesday or Friday at 5:30 if there is enough interest. Let me know your preference! Morning classes at the Lotus Blooms studio are still to be determined but the Thursday morning class at 8:30 with all donations going to the Urban Wildlife Care center are ongoing (however no class on September 17 and 24 due to holidays). Live Like a Lotus in the Water

If you've every tried Restorative Yoga...you know it feels good :) but did you know the side effects can be better sleep? pain reduction? reduced inflammation in the body? improved digestion? an improved sense of well-being? really...the list goes on!!! Restorative Yoga is not an active practice, it is not stretching. It is a series of poses in which the body is fully supported and we learn to "be" in the pose...to "be" present....to LET GO OF STRESS....to LET GO OF HOLDI...NG ON....and encourage the body to initiate a RELAXATION RESPONSE which is known to permit HEALING. How about trying a class?!! This friday, July 24, there will be 2 options, 4pm and 6pm at my home studio. Class length will be 70-80 minutes. If you are new, the first class is always free...just check it out!! Otherwise, class fee is $10, Please message me to reserve your spot!!

This is my work station this week as I try and work through this hip pain..... Movement Lesson I learned again, don't go past the edge, luxuriate in the breath, ACCEPT what you can and should not do ;-) feeling much better rolling around on these yoga tune up balls!! :-)
