What do you do if you want a sweet treat and do not want to spike your blood sugar? Balancing daily blood sugar levels is important for the midlife woman as our cells become more resistant to insulin as our hormones estrogen and progesterone diminish. When our blood sugar levels are balanced, our hormones are balanced, our mood stays balanced, our microbiome remains balanced and we have even energy throughout the day. But we all want dessert every once in a while and life is ...for living and sharing and enjoying! Healthy eating is not all about being a kill-joy or always eating salad! It is about making sensible choices from nutritious options of real, nutrient dense food. Enter this recipe for Chocolate Mousse which uses avocado as its base. Recipe is on my blog. Link in bio.

During perimenopause, because your hormones estrogen and progesterone reduce, your body is less receptive to insulin and the sugar that is in your diet becomes responsible for your midlife muffin top.

Rainy Saturday afternoon Chocolate Latte. When you hit you forties you will find that the old strategies of cutting calories or carbs and of exercising with more cardio just don’t work anymore. Hormonal changes mean that estrogen decreases and our stress hormone cortisol can dominate. Crash dieting and excessive exercise just puts more stress on the body and we end up anxious, with a muffin top and waking in the night even when we are exhausted. The solution is dense nutritio...n and self-care to protect our adrenal glands, sleep, mood, libido and daily energy. Your forties and fifties are the perfect time of life to treat yourself like a princess, nourish yourself with deep nutrition and begin building vibrant health to extend your healthy active years in the next chapter. Check out IGTV to see how I make my chocolate latte and download the link in my bio to learn the Essential 10 Foods for the Midlife Woman. See more

The avocado is one of the foods that should be on the weekly shopping list of every midlife woman, every week of the year. Packed with our relaxation mineral magnesium and healthy fibre for our daily detox (poop); full of mono saturated, heart-healthy fats and vitamin E to support supple skin and your cardiovascular system, the avocado is hugely protective of our all-round, midlife health. It is a super food sister! An avocado is quick to prepare and can be thrown on top of a... salad, sliced onto toast or added to an an egg to provide each plate with that satiating healthy fat that helps balance blood sugar levels, keeps you satiated and gives you energy for days. Perhaps the most health protective aspect of the avocado is its anti-inflammatory properties. Research shows that the avocado will scour free radicals and antioxidants which damage health on a cellular level so efficiently that eating a meal containing avocado will reduce the inflammatory response that may be induced by other foods that you put on your plate. Read that again! An avocado when added to your plate is protecting your health from other foods that are on that plate as it is such a powerful antioxidant. This is the superhero of fruits people! Avocados should come with capes! Demonstrating how to make a Red Cabbage Apple and Ginger Sauerkraut so that your vegetables keep longer, you have a healthy source of probiotic on hand and a delicious vitamin C rich food

Louise Carr 06.01.2020

Tomorrow at 9am MST, 12pm EST and 4pm GMT I will be demonstrating how to make a simple Red Cabbage Sauerkraut. I will share this demonstration into this group. Fermenting vegetables increases their storage life and makes vegetables available to you for longer. Red cabbage is packed with vitamin C and when we ferment foods they increase their vitamin C content by up to 300times. It is really quite magical! Red cabbage, apple and ginger are packed with fibre that provide food f...or a health microbiome. Fermenting foods also means that they become packed with the healthy probiotic bacteria that support a healthy microbiome. Having a healthy microbiome is fundamental to both our mood and a healthy immune response. Who doesn't want those two things at this particular time in our history?!? You can use green or white cabbage, kohlrabi or shredded sprouts. Ginger is optional and so is apple. Let's start preparing health boosting foods together. See more
