Seascapes and Mermaid Tails 06.10.2020

Finally finished! This is a tribute to a mother whale named Tahlequa or J 35. She carried her deceased baby for 17 days over a thousand kilometres. I haven’t chosen a name for this piece yet. A native face came out in the rocks of the island adding to how spiritual this painting is to me. It’s done in acrylic and is 24 x 36. It is available for purchase...if you’re interested please pm me.

I live aboard a boat so finding the space to paint is a challenge. Creating this little studio space has made all the difference to me. I can finally leave everything out so when I have the time, I can just sit down and paint. Feeling pretty happy

Just the whales to be painted in. I can’t believe this one has taken me a year to finish. I’ve recently read that the most challenging painting holds the biggest lessons. So many times I wanted to tear it up and start something else but instead learnt to let go and just trust myself..not easy to do. Although I’m really excited to start the next one, I’m so glad I listened to my biggest supporter(my husband) and pushed through this one.

I’ve been very slowly working on this yet to be finished painting. Many times I’ve wanted to scrap it but I’m determined to finish it.

So it’s been what seem forever since I’ve gotten down to painting. My heart aches to do it but time just hasn’t been available. That sounds like an excuse so may I refrain it to say I have chosen to be busy in other ways. Summer was beautiful and we had lots of time out on the water. Lots of inspiration! Now that the weather is starting to cool and we begin to cocoon inside I know the brushes are going to fly. Im already working on a piece for a friend so feeling pretty excited see the progression. More to come soon

This painting is nowhere near done but I noticed a face in the rock work of the island. Unintentional to be honest but I feel this painting is going to be very special. So much to do to finish this piece but once it all comes together I think it's going to be a winner. There will be a mother and baby orca in memory of the one that carried her baby for so long after it had passed away. Kind of cool that a spirit face would show in this meaningful painting...it's a non accident if you ask me.

My upcoming painting is a tribute to Tahlequah, or J35 ...I believe she showed the world along with her pod how badly we, as keepers of our world, are totally destroying our and their world. She and her pod carried the dead baby over a thousand miles before she let go. To me a clear message obviously not understood by many. I'm really hoping my painting depicting life and a healthy environment can remind us all of what we can have if we start changing our ways. It's time to s...tart understanding what can be done and how we can change our ideals through educating ourselves about our resident whales and their habits. Resident whales are actually physically or genetically different than the transient pods. Their jaws aren't as large so they aren't capable of feeding on larger sea life like seals. They "sing" a lot if you will, or so to speak, "talk" too much to hunt larger prey. These are just a couple differences making it impossible to feed in a different way making it imperative that there are enough salmon available to nurture a pregnant female and keep a healthy pod. So much to learn here! This is just the start of my painting. I like to show the different stages of creation. I think it's interesting to see how a painting comes to life. Hoping soon we will also see the beginning of change to save our resident singing beautiful whales and start seeing their numbers coming back to life. See more
