Never tell yourself you are too old or you can’t make it. If you believe you can do it you can do it. Change nothing and nothing changes. At age 23, Tina Fey wa...s working at a YMCA. At age 23, Oprah was fired from her first reporting job. At age 24, Stephen King was working as a janitor and living in a trailer. At age 27, Vincent Van Gogh failed as a missionary and decided to go to art school. At age 28, J.K. Rowling was a suicidal single parent living on welfare. At age 28, Wayne Coyne (from The Flaming Lips) was a fry cook.At age 30, Harrison Ford was a carpenter. At age 30, Martha Stewart was a stockbroker. At age 37, Ang Lee was a stay-at-home-dad working odd jobs.Julia Child released her first cookbook at age 39, and got her own cooking show at age 51. Vera Wang failed to make the Olympic figure skating team, didn’t get the Editor-in-Chief position at Vogue, and designed her first dress at age 40. Stan Lee didn’t release his first big comic book until he was 40.Alan Rickman gave up his graphic design career to pursue acting at age 42. Samuel L. Jackson didn’t get his first movie role until he was 46.Morgan Freeman landed his first MAJOR movie role at age 52.Kathryn Bigelow only reached international success when she made The Hurt Locker at age 57. Grandma Moses didn’t begin her painting career until age 76.Louise Bourgeois didn’t become a famous artist until she was 78. Whatever your dream is, it is not too late to achieve it. You aren’t a failure because you haven’t found fame and fortune by the age of 21. Hell, it’s okay if you don’t even know what your dream is yet. Even if you’re flipping burgers, waiting tables or answering phones today, you never know where you’ll end up tomorrow.Never tell yourself you’re too old to make it. Never tell yourself you missed your chance. Never tell yourself that you aren’t good enough. You can do it. Whatever it is. GO FOR IT. Mike and Judy Saunders

Victoria, BC has a number of alleys that are of interest to tourists and locals alike. Stay tuned this week as we will do photo tours of Dragon Alley in Chinatown and Waddington Alley in downtown Victoria. In 1908 Waddington Alley was paved with creosoted wood (Douglas Fir) blocks.

If you have a construction project in downtown Victoria, BC and you install a wooden fence around the perimeter, before you know it, the street artists have tur...ned it into an art gallery. These artists are talented and will turn any blank surface into a work of art. We love to see street art. It changes what could be an eyesore into something exciting and interesting. This is not graffiti. It is art and these people have something to say. If you walk around the downtown area and really look you will find street art everywhere. Check it out. These are all at one location on Government Street. You’ll be glad you did. Mike and Judy. #LoveLifeBoomersTravelFar See more

Trounce Alley is named after Victoria Pioneer Thomas Trounce, and contains authentic gaslights that are over 125 years old. Trounce Alley is also home to one-of...-a-kind shops and authentic Spanish style tapa bars. If you’ve ever been shopping in downtown Victoria, BC, odds are you walked from Government St. to Broad St. by cutting through Trounce Alley. The alley has emerged as a diverse micro hub where Old World businesses coexist alongside hip new shops and restaurants without disrupting the charm of the gaslight-lighted pathway. If you are visiting or live in Victoria we would suggest you visit some of Victoria’s alleys. They are fun. Judy and Mike. #LoveLifeBoomersTravelFar See more

Miniature World Part 2 It is well worth a visit. Miniature World is a popular tourist attraction that has been in business for about 48 years and we think man...y locals have never visited it either. If you like miniatures, fairytales and doll houses, dioramas and appreciate fine workmanship then you will enjoy this. Walk down the road in the little people's Wonderful World of Smallness and step into the Story Books of fact, fiction and fantasy. Return to those fond memories of yesteryear, those childhood dreams and history's greatest moments. They even have the world’s smallest operational sawmill that was 11 years in the making. If you live in the area stop by for a visit and be prepared to be impressed. It is far more that Judy or I imagined and we highly recommend it. Miniature World is open every day except Monday. Miniature World. Part 1 Since we first arrived in Victoria, BC in 1988 we have walked past the Minature World entrance in the Fairmont Empress building hundreds... of times but we never went in, that is, until today. It is impressive to say the least. It was awarded the 2017 Certificate of Excellence by TripAdvisor. It is well worth a visit. To all our friends in Victoria. Saturday is the day to vote in the election to fill a vacant seat on the Victoria city council. This is a very important electi...on to help restore common sense at the municipal level. Turn out and vote. Don't let other people decide who will represent your interests. It is very important. Dropped by the Hillside Mall in Victoria, BC today. The crowds are still not great but this lighting display was quite good. If you are going to shop for Christmas think about shopping local.

World War 1 (1914 -1918) was one of the deadliest wars in history resulting in the deaths of nine million combatants and thirteen million civilians. This bronze... plaque was installed over the fireplace in the McGregor Lounge in the Union Club of BC in Victoria following the war. It is amazing to me that 23 members of a small men's club in Canada would be killed in action in that war. The useless devastation of a world war is unimaginable. #LoveLifeBoomersTravelFar See more

The Maritime Museum of BC is located in Victoria, BC in the Nootka Court at 634 Humboldt Street. It highlights the story of the province’s rich maritime heritag...e and culture. It shows the dynamic history of mankind’s relationship with the sea from indigenous peoples, adventure, exploration, Canadian Pacific Railway’s steamships that plied these waters and everything in between. The models of the steamships are beautiful and very well done. A display on now showing BC Lighthouses is very interesting. A visit to the Maritime Museum of BC is a chance for the whole family to experience British Columbia’s marine heritage. Like everyone else the museum is working on limited hours due to Covid-19 so it is best to call ahead at 250-385-4222 or online at [email protected] to check times. If you are thinking about shopping local for Christmas this year a visit to the museum gift shop is a great opportunity to find some unique gifts for that special person on your list. #LoveLifeBoomersTravelFar.
