Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day and big congrats to the wonderful Michelle Sylliboy for her co-win tonight at the Indigenous Voices Awards in the Published Poetry in English category. There are many great poems in this collection, but this is the one that I happened to read by the water earlier today. Enjoy. ** Breathe by Michelle Sylliboy... My lungs are filling up ocean air working to the tenderness of natural knowledge it seeks completely inspired by the music she creates daily sudden memories hit like a wave crashing against the rocks we call our grandfathers time made no effort to be part of the moment she seized the landscape for an opportunity to let us know life is temporary do not waste it ** From the collection Kiskajeyi - I am ready Copyright 2019 Rebel Mountain Press (reprinted with permission from the writer)

Sometimes you just don’t want to wait 10 months for the big ceremony with all of the trimmings. Sometimes you just want your closest peeps (and pooch) and an intimate morning ceremony that’s low on hassles and big on love. Today, that seemed just about perfect for S and L. Congrats, lovebirds, and thanks for wrapping up my year in style and smiles.

Laughing brides are my favourite. Happy 1st anniversary, b+K and here’s to many, many more!

It’s always an honour to help a family say goodbye to their matriarch. It’s especially poignant when the ceremony takes place just before Mother’s Day, when so many of us are more attuned to the impact that these women have had on our lives and the lives of so many around us. Thank you to all of the mothers who have lived by example, and who have raised us to be our own unique selves. #celebrationoflife #memorialceremony #celebrant

When I start working with a new wedding couple, I ask them to send me a photo of themselves. I pull this image up when I’m writing their ceremony as a way of keeping them with me as I help craft their story. My newest couple just sent me the most hilarious and lovely photo of them in their ugly Christmas sweater outfits. They both have slightly goofy and completely adorable smiles and I couldn’t have asked for a better image to help me conjure their vibe. It’s not weird to use it as my computer wallpaper for the next 18 months, right?
