Henri is probably the cutest rabbit in the entire world (try to convince me otherwise), and he rocks his role as the face of Black Rabbit Rescue Fund. Everyone ...who knows us knows how much we adore this little rabbit. They also know how much trouble he can get into. As Easter approaches, Humane Societies and Rescues continuously post information about pet rabbit care because they know what’s coming. In the weeks and months following Easter, there is a dramatic increase in the amount of rabbits being brought in. Thousands of unwanted rabbits given as cute Easter gifts will be dumped outside, surrendered, or euthanized. Rabbits make amazing pets for so many people, but they are NOT for everyone! If you are considering adding a pet rabbit to your family, here are some things to consider: Rabbits are NOT cuddly, most do not tolerate being picked up. They prefer to socialize with you on the ground or couch level. For this reason, they do NOT make good pets for young children. Rabbits can be very destructive. Rabbit proofing is a must or you can say goodbye to your baseboards, carpets, furniture, wires, and basically everything within their reach. Rabbits are expensive. They eat constantly, and require a specialized diet. They are also considered exotic pets so vet care is expensive. Rabbits cannot live in small cages. They require a large indoor living space with plenty of room to hop and play. They are social animals who need attention and enrichment. They are a 10+ year commitment. Rabbits who are spayed/neutered and cared for properly can live very long, happy lives. PLEASE do your research before getting a rabbit. There are many resources out there to help you make an informed decision. If a pet rabbit is right for you please choose to adopt and save a life.

Flea and tick season is here! Don't delay, start your prevention today. As we are still running curbside, we are asking that you please call ahead to order your prevention when possible. The past few weeks, depending on the time of day, we are noticing line ups starting to form waiting to get into the cubicle to pay...SO, if you can pay over the phone for your products, it will expedite your pick up! ... Thank you, once again, for your patience and understanding over the past year. We, like all of you, hope things will be back to normal in the not too distant future. Thanks for all your support. Your LVH Team

Alright QHS supporters and rabbit lovers, I need your help! Quinte Humane Society currently has 10 rabbits that need homes. While the shelter provides a safe, w...arm place to stay... it is meant to be temporary. QHS does NOT euthanize animals to make space, or have a time limit on how long animals may remain in their care. They also work with rescues and other shelters all over Ontario and even out of province to find homes through the #EMPTYONTARIOSHELTERS movement (co-founded by an amazing QHS staff member!) Some of these rabbits have been waiting since October 2020 to find a home, so please share this post and let’s get these beautiful buns adopted!

There is still time to donate to the U10 Spirit’s Go Fund Me campaign for the Grace Inn Homeless Shelter. For every $10 you donate your name will be entered int...o a draw. Due to the pandemic this year, this wonderful group of young boys are unable to go in and help at The Grace Inn shelter as they normally do. They have decided to raise money for the shelter so they can purchase the supplies they need. We know an awesome kiddo on this team, let's help them try and reach their goal!! All donations $10 and more are entered in a raffle draw for some awesome prizes! Thank you for taking the time to read the GoFundMe page, times are definitely di...fferent this holiday season. And if you wouldn't mind, could you please hit the 'share' button and help spread the word . https://gf.me/u/zaifg3

We can't stress the importance of microchipping!! This sweet kitty was brought in by the lovely girl who had just found her for a check over. She had already decided to keep her as part of her family, to find out she was microchipped. As you can see, it was a very emotional reunion for this momma, she had being missing since August . PLEASE MICROCHIP YOUR PETS!

Hi everyone, it's Dr. Doxsee here...I have taken over our Facebook account...hacked in and ready to share something near and dear to my heart! For those that don't know, it is Veterinary Technician week, so I am going say THANK YOU for all you do to keep this place running! Please read and give some love to our amazing technicians in the comments. ******************************************************************* When I first graduated from vet school, I remember being in ...awe and sometimes scared of the techs I worked with. They were so confident, skilled and dedicated to the job. I learned early on to respect their expertise and to look to them for help. They were always there for the technical work, but also for client service questions and to troubleshoot some medical cases. Those first technicians were patient, kind and tremendously helpful in allowing me to figure out what kind of doctor I was going to be. I can still hear their words of wisdom even though our paths parted years ago. Over the years, I've been lucky to meet and get to know many outstanding veterinary technicians. They all have one thing in common: they are fearless. They are the first ones to reach into the cat carrier at the hissing cat; they know just what to do to calm her down and keep everyone safe while her exam is being done. They are not afraid of the growling dog; they understand he's just really, really scared and doesn't know how else to react. They are not afraid to get down on the floor with a patient, often in very close quarters with owners. They are not afraid to improvise when equipment or supplies are not perfectly suited to this tiny kitten vein. They are not afraid to work through a global pandemic, with protocols and rules that are ever-changing and an unprecedented demand for services. They want to be available to you and your pets. They are exceptional problem solvers, creative geniuses, tough as nails and more resilient than anyone else you'll meet. They work in a physically, mentally and emotionally demanding job that they take day by day with dedication and pride. I cannot do my job without technicians!! Thank you. Let's hear it for Karen, Donna, Logan, Mallory, Amy and Leigh. Comment below to share YOUR love and appreciation for these outstanding women! Veterinary Technician Week- October 12-16th, 2020

PSA to our wonderful LVH family... We are undergoing a software change on Thurs Oct 1st, and we are asking for your patience and understanding as we go through this transition. While we learn to navigate this new system, we are asking that you give is 24hrs notice to refil...l prescriptions. We are hoping for a smooth transition , but please understand any frustrations we may be having are with the computer, and not you...lol! Wish us luck!!
