As a proud supporter of the body positive movement, we think it is important to recognize all the wonderful and strong black activists with whom it began - especially during Black History Month. The Body Positive movement is about creating a space for marginalized bodies to exist, be seen and celebrated. It was started by black women and gained popularity due to their hard work. By being honest about their own body image issues, normalizing marginalized bodies and courageou...sly questioning societal standards for beauty, they have encouraged millions of people around the world to love themselves as they are and find more peace, contentment and joys in their lives. They have also challenged and continue to challenge the ways that racism, ableism, fatphobia, and sexism exist in the wellness community. Body positivity isn't just about loving your body. It is about recognizing the work that needs to be done to ensure that black, indigenous, trans, disabled and all different kinds of bodies are also seen as worthy, beautiful and deserving of acceptance. Not feeling inspired by your at-home workout space? With so many people making the big transition to working out from home while accessing virtual classes, we're seeing that how much they enjoy their space makes a big impact on whether or not they feel motivated to use it! This can mean how it looks visually, how comfortable it is, or how equipped it is with what they need for classes. We encourage you to create a zen-zone for yourself! A space that will make you EXCITED to... move and to connect to class. Invest in quality equipment that will serve you and your movement long-term! ( we're loving our new meditation cushions from Half-Moon!) Post pictures or quotes that are inspirational to you! (Maybe even a vision board!) Put up a calendar to remind you of your goals and so you can look forward to your class schedule! (pre-register early for more accountability!) Create a tranquil space for more mindful classes by dimming the lights, using candles, a fireplace, essential oils, etc! Mirrors can be really helpful for checking your form (and for checking yourself out! ) Depending on the class, you may want to set up your own motivating playlist to encourage you to push a little harder! Get creative with whatever gets you giddy to enter your workout space and give your all! (And if you feel inspired, tag us in a photo of your new, go-getter space!)

Ouch, you've gotten injured! Now what Let’s face it - no matter how careful we are in our lives, injuries can happen! Which is why we need to understand how to deal with injuries at a physical and emotional level and learn out how to get back on track with our health and fitness goals after sustaining one. ... For years when we got hurt, we were told to rest, ice, compress and elevate (RICE). We were told to slow down, to stop moving and avoid doing anything to further aggravate the injury. After decades of telling patients with injuries or pain to take it easy, medical professionals are now starting to change their tune by prescribing light movement instead. This is because gentle movement at the beginning of an injury decreases the build up of buildup of scar tissue within the injured joint or muscle/tendon. It also increases blood flow and oxygen to the injured area which stimulates healing. While you never want to go hard right after an injury or ignore pain, you don’t necessarily have to stay in bed either, which in fact can sometimes make the injury or pain worse!! Walking, swimming, gentle Yoga and rehabilitative Pilates are great ways to ease back into movement and keep your core strong during the recovery process. These are unprecedented times - we are surrounded by change and many aspects of our lives have been disrupted leading to anxiety and stress. This means we aren't sleeping well. We are short tempered and angry. We can barely remember what day it is... and honestly some days we have to fight just to make it through our normal daily activities. And we aren't sure how to fix it. What can you do to cope when you feel this overwhelmed? ... What can we do to stay centred amidst all the uncertainty? This isn't about distraction. Its not about a band-aid solution. Its about creating real change to show you how strong you are. Its about tapping into something deep inside of you. Its about learning a skill that will help you right now, but will also help you in all areas of your life. It will help you find your confidence, build consistency and finally feel like the GODDESS that you are. We can choose to freak out and let the anxiety take over.
