Life.School.House 04.02.2021

Hey all, some of you may have seen the post put out on the main Life.School.House page about what to do with this pause in life due to the pandemic. I am super excited about virtual connectivity in a time where many of us will be more isolated than ever. Each host will make their own decisions on whether to go ahead with events at their location. As for us, in the East Hants location, we have decided as a family that we will not be holding workshops for the forseeable future and will reassess in 3 weeks time. I look forward to the virtual coffee sessions we are planning and hope to connect with you there!

Let’s look for the gifts in the upcoming pause. As COVID-19 continues to spread the LifeSchoolHouse team has been thinking a lot about how we all can continu...e to offer support to our community in the spirit of reducing loneliness and isolation even during upcoming periods of social distancing. To protect those who are most vulnerable in our society, we are cancelling our larger gatherings (Makers Swaps) until further notice but each independently organized LSH venue will make a decision about their small group gatherings as things unfold so please check in with your host for more information. We encourage you to look to the experts for information about safe gathering practices and swapping/sharing then decide for yourself how you will proceed. We also think now is the perfect time to think together about how best to support each other during the weeks and months ahead. We are inspired by these words from the founders of the Buy Nothing Project who have shared some of their ideas about how to keep a gift economy mindset during these times: https://www.buynothinggeteverything.com//how-share-during-. Here’s the short version: There are many forms of giving and this is a great time to explore all of them. If you're at low risk, you can offer to pick up and and deliver supplies to a neighbor at higher risk, without having direct physical contact. If you're sitting on a large supply of a useful household good that someone needs, offer some to neighbors without. If you have no surplus of goods, or are concerned about the transfer of items between people, you can offer your presence via calls, emails, texts, video chat, and social media to people who are facing social isolation alone. We have an opportunity to reimagine our community gatherings and have started a Makers Swap group where those makers with items to share can arrange one-to-one swaps (leave on the doorstep if you must!): https://www.facebook.com/groups/2570059326563798/?ref=share We are also going to host online community coffee chats once a week to connect and share ideas to keep engaged and making. This is a new idea that is just forming - stay tuned for more information! Ultimately, we believe that when the initial need for physical distance passes, some of us may feel even more isolated or wary or anxious about reengaging in community. Let’s stay close now to avoid the impulse to isolate, and think together about ways to rebuild active shared spaces and vibrant, connected communities. Stay well and wash your hands

Today’s gathering of the LSH community in Metro was likely our last in-person swap for the time being. We gathered and we sanitized, spaced ourselves out and really enjoyed swapping stories about our past lockdown experiences to help think our way through this next period of separation. #seeyousoon!

LifeSchoolHouse means many things to our community but a sense of gratitude and abundance is always shared
