We had a great first week back! It is so nice that our building is alive again with the sound of children!
Thank you Westlake parents, students and staff for an excellent first day of school! Thank you all for your flexibility and cooperation as we get use to these new protocols that we need to follow!
Can't wait for our students to see these boards in person tomorrow!
Dear Parents, We are so excited for the first day of school for our Grade 1-5 students on Monday, August 31st. Our school is ready to go! Our staff has been busy getting ready for the upcoming school year. We have a bunch of fun activities planned. We will be handing out masks to students on the first day. I will give each student their first mask Monday morning. I will be standing outside the schools main entrance. Please have your child pick up their mask from me, and then... I will then direct them to their assigned door to enter the school. Students will receive their second mask when they meet up with their teacher. Parents are welcome to come into the school on the first day. All adults that come into the building need to wear a mask and sign in. We will have sign-in sheets at all of our entrances. K-2 students will use the eastside doors by the playground, grade 3 and 4 students will use the southside doors by the spiderweb and the main entrance will be used by grade 5 and visitors that come during the day. Please feel free to email me ([email protected]) if you have any questions. Thank you very much for your cooperation. We look forward to seeing you and your family! Mrs. Edwards

Here is the survey link: https://bit.ly/confirm_attend This message was sent out yesterday requesting parent to fill out this survey. If you did not receive thi...s survey or if you have not filled this in already, please do!! if you have already taken this survey please do not fill it in again. Thank you! This is the message that went out along with the survey link: Please be aware that Horizon does have options for at-home learning and home education and wishes to stay connected to our students and their families. In order for Horizon to provide the appropriate levels of support in classrooms and for at-home learning, please confirm your plans for your child's/children's schooling this year, 2020-21. On July 31, Premier Jason Kenney and Minister of Education, Adriana LaGrange announced that schools in Alberta would reopen in September under "Scenario 1" directing schools to resume near-normal operations and implement health restrictions to reduce the spread of COVID-19. All Horizon schools are open and we will meet the health guidelines provided by Chief Medical Officer of Health, including any adjustments which may come in the future. This year, Horizon will provide schooling at home for students whose parents do not wish for them to attend regular classes in school. This programming can take different forms depending on the needs of the students and we will work with parents to develop a plan for you. Please understand that this will be more complete than the emergency programming provided in the spring when teachers were asked to only teach essential outcomes (only a fraction of the curriculum). We also have options for parents who wish to design a home education plan themselves. IMPORTANT: No matter how your family accesses schooling this year, each student must register at a school. It is the law in Alberta that all children between the ages and 6 and 16 are registered with a host school division or school. School offices do not re-open until the week of August 24th and parents may contact their community school after that time. Thank you for your assistance in helping us plan for the start of the new school year under these challenging conditions. We sincerely appreciate you sharing information so we can prepare for student needs this year. You may call the Horizon School Division office at 403-223-3547 for general information.
Non-medical masks, including homemade cloth masks, can help prevent the spread COVID-19. They are another tool to use in places where its difficult to keep two... metres from other people for extended periods of time such as public transit, grocery stores, pharmacies, hair salons, airplanes and some retail shops. A&W, McDonalds Restaurants of Canada Ltd. and Tim Hortons are partnering with the Alberta government to distribute non-medical masks at no cost through their drive-thru locations across the province, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Distribution will start in early June. Government is also working with municipalities, First Nations communities, Metis Settlements and local agencies to distribute the non-medical masks to those who need them, such as people who depend on public transit. This initiative is part of Albertas Relaunch Strategy to safely begin removing public health restrictions and reopen our economy. For more information, visit alberta.ca/RelaunchStrategy. I want to thank A&W, McDonalds Canada, Tim Hortons, and all of the other organizations and municipalities that have come together to help us distribute millions of masks. The collective response from leaders in government, public, and private sectors has been overwhelming and I am incredibly grateful to everyone involved. Tyler Shandro, Minister of Health A&W is very pleased to support the Government of Alberta with this great initiative. Our restaurants across the province have been quick to step up and help organize the distribution of masks, and are looking forward to welcoming Albertans at our drive-thrus. Susan Senecal, president and CEO, A&W Canada McDonalds Canada, together with our franchisees, have been committed to helping our communities throughout this pandemic. We welcome this opportunity to use our drive-thru operations to assist the Alberta government, and do the right thing for Albertans when they need us most.
