Meet the Team Part 1 Did you know that our site coordinators are graduate students just like our volunteers? Hanna and Ileana are both PhD students and joined the team in 2019. Since then, Hanna was able to increase volunteer involvement by over 50% compared to previous years, while Ileana has raised over $30,000 in funding for site operations and coordinated the logistics of a virtual Let’s Talk Cancer symposium which reached over 200 students across Canada! Stay tuned for part 2 to meet our other site coordinators.
Our very first Bioengineering Day was a huge success with 177 attendees Huge shoutout to the Biomedical Engineering Student Organisation for co-organising this event. Also a big thank you to all the speakers.
This is my first year volunteering at Let’s Talk Science and I only wished I joined sooner! Having graduated from Medical Biophysics and now completing my masters in biomedical engineering, I think it’s important to encourage more girls to explore physics and engineering. My passion for research and ultimately pursing a MD/PhD this following year have been fuelled by the amazing educators and mentors in my life. Unfortunately, not all students have equal access to education,... so it has been my mission to share my love for science no matter where you come from or what adversities you face. Even though workshops have been moved virtually, there were so many awesome and engaging activities! One of my favourite activities this year was ‘Exploring with Scratch’. I hope the brief introduction into coding will spark student’s interest in computer science from an early age and teach them about its broad applicability in many fields. Congratulations to Lucy who is our volunteer of the month for February See more
We are very excited to be hosting our very first Bioengineering Day in collaboration with the Biomedical Engineering Student Association next week. This event will allow grade 11-12 students to learn more about cutting edge bioengineering topics such as CovidCOVID-19 vaccine development , stem cells and tissue engineering , biofabrication, CRISPR gene editing , nanotechnology and robotic surgery https://letstalkscience-parlonssciences-ca.zoom.us//WN_jRA Students have the chance to win prizes by participating in the quizzes throughout the day.
Join us for our 12th annual StemCellTalks Symposium that is being held in collaboration with Let's Talk Science Guelph and Let's Talk Science at McMaster. This year students get the chance to learn about stem cell-mediated repair in the pancreas, blood and muscoskeletal system. https://letstalkscience-parlonssciences-ca.zoom.us//WN_uje
