Why not jump on the viral trend? Using the photo enhancing, colourizing, and animating software at MyHeritage, we get a little glimpse at what meeting William Donnelly might have looked like.

We are working hard to turn the museum into a COVID-safe place to visit with generous support from Middlesex County. An article like this gives us a little more hope that we can open safely for in-person visits this Spring! https://hyperallergic.com//museums-are-safer-than-any-oth/

This year, for the first time in a long time, we have been asked to make collective sacrifices to keep ourselves and each other safe. From the minor inconvenience of wearing a mask, to the heartbreak of missing your family, this has been a new experience for so many. But this was the story of life on the home front during the World Wars. Men and women came together to facing increased workloads, food and gas rations, and so much more to keep the home front alive for those f...ighting overseas. During this day of remembrance, we must remember the sacrifices made by the men and women who fought for us at home and abroad, and keep working together for the common good so we can make it through this crisis as safe as can be. Wear a mask. Stay safe. Take care. Lest we forget...

Happy Thanksgiving to all from The Lucan and Area Heritage Society! For our American followers, we celebrate Thanksgiving in October rather than November. What we have in common is both of our Thanksgivings are rooted in Aboriginal fall harvest feasts that predate European settlement. After The First World War, Canada celebrated Armistice Day and Thanksgiving together in mid-November. In 1931, November 11th was declared Rememberance Day, a day solely dedicated to our veterans, and so Thanksgiving was moved, being celebrated on the second Monday of October. It was finally declared an official holiday in 1957.

In the wake of Black Lives Matter protests across the world, The London Free Press spoke to our very own Marlene Thornton and her uncle Ed Butler about the deep roots of Black history in our region. Marlene and Ed are descendants of one of the original families to settle the Wilberforce Colony that existed decades before the village of Lucan was founded. Marlene has been an indispensable part of commemorating Black history in Lucan, and we are honoured to have her as a voice in the Lucan and Area Heritage Society. https://lfpress.com//wcm/38c039da-b21e-4704-a658-95eda92a/

Hi Folks! We have received some inquiries, and we would like to confirm for all that we will sadly not be opening to the public this season. Due to the make-up of our volunteer group, and the cost required to operate safely during the pandemic, the Lucan and Area Heritage Society have decided to remain closed for the safety of our staff, volunteers, and guests. We are very glad to see that as the province opens up, we have come to mind as a place to visit. It reminds us of ...why we work so hard to preserve and promote this history. We appreciate your support and understanding during these trying times and we hope we will get to welcome you all in good health and safety next season!
