Remembering Lucas Getson Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired ...or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:18-31 See more

PLEASE SHARE LUCAS GETSON ANNUAL MEMORIAL RUN IS STILL A GO THIS YEAR ... WHERE: Starting at Canoe Cove Beach- back of the parking lot. No loud music/ rowdy behaviour, or drinking and driving/ open liquor as there was someone called on us there last year. Please respect this. I will have his rubber boot stickers available too. WHEN: Tuesday, August 3rd at 6:30 pm We will be leaving Canoe Cove beach and doing the drive on the back roads. Keep an eye out for balloons/ streamers if you get lost. Feel free to decorate your vehicle. Be mindful of the four-wheelers and dirt bikes that are welcomed on the run as well. WHY: Lucas Getson was killed in a car accident August 3rd, 2014. He was only 15. This could have been prevented if it wasn’t for EXTREMELY high speeds. Everyone misses him. He used to love driving the dirt roads. So that is what we will continue to do. We will end up at the crash site after the dirt roads. Songs will be played, flowers will be laid. Anyone who would like to can share a memory, poem etc. Going to the waterfront lot on Ocean drive afterwards as well for anyone who would like to join, to hangout with his family and friends. Oh and, take lots of pictures !!! you never know when it will be the last one you ever take with someone. Memories are precious.

LUCAS GETSON’S MEMORIAL by Emily Prevost-Ross 6 years ago Peter, the kids, and I were driving to drop off house keys at a friend’s house. We would be going on vacation the following day and this friend would be caring for our cats while we were away. All of our travel preparations were taking hours and hours longer than I had planned. We were behind schedule. As we drove, we suddenly saw before us a grand billow of red dirt. When we came upon the scene of a terrible accid...ent, I felt compelled by the Holy Spirit to get out and to go pray for whoever was in that wheatfield. Peter waited in the van with the kids and prayed. As I soldiered through the long grass, I didn’t know what to expect. As I approached the scene, I was directed to a young man laying there. I announced my presence, Hello Lucas. My name is Emily. I believe in God and I’m here to pray for you. I knelt down next to him, placed my hand on his leg and began praying aloud. One day I will write a full account of details as I remember them. But for today, I remember how my own personal plans of the day were frustrated because God had a more important plan. God intended for me to be at that spot, at that moment, to pray for a 15 year old boy. He was not able to respond except through groans. But I believe with all of my heart that Lucas heard me and that God was present. Sadly, and shockingly to me, I learned the following day that he died after paramedics had arrived and I left the field. I am forever changed by this encounter. I feel forever connected to Lucas’ family. I’m grateful that in life and in death, God is with us. Annually, I have felt blessed and honoured to be invited to speak and pray at the crash site where Lucas’ beloved family and peers pause to honour him, after they drive through his favourite trails on their ATV’s and dirt bikes. Every year it’s difficult to share my heart because I want to be sensitive to the cataclysmic loss this family and these friends are enduring. Tonight I shared scripture verses sharing the fact that 1) We don’t have to be alone in our suffering, [God is compassionate and is close to the broken-hearted and crushed in spirit; God is with us and strengthens us] Psalm 34:18; Matthew 5:4; Psalm 34:4-5; Isaiah 41:10 2) There is purpose in our suffering [God comforts us in our pain and suffering so that we can comfort others in their pain and suffering; God wants us to take every opportunity to rely on Him; to put our hope and trust in Him] 2 Corinthians 1:3, 8-9 3) God invites each of us to come with our weariness and burdens and to lay them down, to find real and true rest in Him [Nothing separates us from the love of God] Matthew 11:28-30; Romans 8: 38-39
