[COLLECTIVE CONVERSATIONS] Part one: How did you find yoga? I honestly never ever ever tried it or wanted to do it. I always thought, I’m so inflexible, I can’t touch my toes, I’m never going to yoga. Then I found myself alone in India for an internship. No family, no friends, so much silence. I told myself I needed to bring home something more than material goods. I needed to bring back awareness, a new way of thinking, a practice. So I tried my first yoga class: it fell ...right in my lap. My guru was authentic and real. I went everyday for the remainder of my journey there and found so much peace in the time I spent with myself. When I got back to Canada I definitely struggled with practicing for genuine reasons versus to fuel my ego. But, slowly, as I started to realize problems within myself in other realms of my life (my relationship with myself, with my partner, with trust, with my thoughts) yoga became so much more than pretty photos and a workout. It became a way to sit with discomfort and comfort. It became a way for me to learn about all the ways my mind had been wired. It became a way for me to learn about my higher Self. So I went back to India to get my training. From there, everything started falling into place. I am loving this journey. Lucid has been so pivotal in it: as have all of you. You all teach me so much. Not only about the practice but about how to be: how to be true to myself, how to respect the space of others, how to deal with certain things I struggle with, how to be a better person. Thank you all so much ~ @jahaan_satya See more

[COLLECTIVE CONVERSATIONS] How did you find yoga? Part 4: I was exposed to the Asanas in jr. high and high school. And then when I was 17, I signed myself up for 10 days of yoga at this ashram in BC. It was not what I expected. Everyone was all modest dressed and quiet and going inward. The ten days of yoga ended up exposing me to all of the limbs. I hated it. I couldn’t wait to go home. I was so anxious to be facing myself for the first time. The stillness was too much. The... silence was deafening. But I saw the whole thing through - and that’s when the journey really began. The first night I got home, I was smoking cigarettes again and drinking. It felt so good to hide again - to abandon myself. When I got home, I started university and kept doing asana. Yoga was more of an ego based thing for me back then. I identified as a yogi. But I would still party on the weekends & get black out drunk - all the time. I was suffering inside. Flash forward a year: I was the worst I had been. Nineteen and a functional MESS. I just kept dragging myself to yoga. Just go tanj. Just go. It’s all I had to keep me grounded. I started doing slow classes instead of faster flows and found myself really sitting with my self. I found some peace here. After that, I went travelling for four months - when I came home, I quit drinking and met myself for the first time. My REAL self. I did my yoga training a couple months later. ~ @tanjeryne See more
