With the annoucement of a second full lockdown and social distancing advisories and non-essential business closures in place, many people some realtors included are scrutinizing whether real estate is an essential service as it has been classified in many regions across Canada and the US. The answer is yes. This is a photo of my 89-year-old grandma and myself (a month before our last full lockdown) and my 92-year-old grandfather (during a social distanced visit). She... is very high risk for the virus and has been living in isolation for almost a year now. He, also high risk, has been living in a retirement home where his day-to-day activities are extremely limited. I understand the importance of protecting everyone. Believe me, I would love to be able to spend time with all of my loved ones and unfortunately, this virus has been detrimental to our elderly community. Alongside food, water and clothing, shelter is one of life’s basic necessities. This is why real estate will continue to be deemed an essential service.
