Pictured: Naps café in the 1950's and Elseor Leger outside Naps Café 1950's. In 1939, Napoleon Bessette purchased the billiard parlor owned by Stewart Forester and expanded the building by adding a café called Naps Café. Ten years later, Sigi and Belle Kuraoka took over the business and gradually converted the café to a laundromat. The laundromat was destroyed by fire and is now the vacant lot on Vernon Street between the Shell Station and Rossworn Henderson Accounting.

In July 1997, the footings were poured for the new Lumby Village office. Local contractor David Hornell of 3D construction began framing the next week with a target to open the office in the Fall. Project Manager was Mac McIlveen and Councilor Ron Neufeld was the Building Committee Chairman. Bigelow's Hardware supplied the lumber package.

The Northern Crown Bank was the predecessor of Lumby's 1924 Royal Bank of Canada. The bank was situated on the corner of Shuswap Avenue and Vernon Street - across from today's Bank of Nova Scotia. It was robbed in 1912 by Milo Roberts who shot and wounded the bank manager Mr. Murchison . Milo later passed out in the Lumby Hotel and was arrested by Magistrate Pete Catt . Milo was convicted in Vernon May 22, 1912 and sentenced to 12 years.
Whitevale Elementary School first opened in 1977 with 133 students attending. The building and grounds are located on 7.5 acres on Whitevale Road. In 2000, a concrete reservoir was added so that water was readily available in case of fire. The school has a modern and unique design but was abandoned in 2006 as the mills in Lumby closed and families moved away. Today, School District #22 uses the facility for storage.
