The International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA) has released a white paper discussing recent findings in the effectiveness of the UV for inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). There is promising research with available evidence to suggest that UV radiation should be effective in the inactivation of COVID-19. Many new home constructions are using PEX / PVC piping, however it is not recommended to be used when connecting directly to a UV system. UV rays over time will damage the plastic piping by becoming brittle and rupture. It is suggested that when installing a UV system there is approximately 3 to 4 inches of metal piping coming off of the UV system before connecting it to a plastic fitting or pipe. A metal elbow can also be installed instead of a length of piping to help protect your plumbing. #techtip
