Meet LYC’s Learn to Sail instructors for the summer 2021 season!

Sail Able South Shore Nova Scotia, a fully inclusive program for persons with physical and/or cognitive adaptive requirements, is seeking applications for a full time Sailing Coach for the 2021 program, which is located at Lunenburg Yacht Club on the pristine waters of Princes Inlet. Welcome to the weekend ! Fabulous fall weather and lots of activity at the Club today taking boats out of the water before Hurricane Teddy. There is still time for you to join us for lunch, for dinner this evening, or for Brunch tomorrow - which is our last Sunday Brunch of the 2020 season. Please call ahead to make reservations, 902-634-3745.

Early in the day a year ago yesterday, at the onset of Hurricane Dorian. Quite a storm. Quite a day.

The crackling fireplace will warm the dining room this evening, and on the menu is Seafood Chowder, Fish and Chips or Pan-seared Haddock, and a Mandarin-Ginger Stir Fry. For dessert we have NY-Style Cheesecake or House-made Apple Crisp. Come join us.

It's a cloud fall day at LYC. Time for some comfort food. On the menu tonight we have Seafood Chowder, one of our guests' favorites, or Felicia's hearty Chili, given two thumbs up last night by our sailors after a rainy Thursday night race. Call us for reservations at 902-634-3745.

With our sailing season shortly coming to an end, we wanted to send a BIG thanks to those who have volunteered at our 2020 regattas and races. We would not be able to run events like the Welcome Back Regatta without your help. Thanks for all that you do for our club.

It's a beautiful September day at LYC. The Clubhouse is open for lunch and supper until 8 pm this evening. Everyone is welcome and reservations are recommended. Lots of delicious dishes and kids' selections and our list of meatless and gluten-free options is growing !

The day is finally here! It's the first day of the LYC Welcome Back Regatta! We're so excited to have everyone and are looking forward to a fantastic regatta.

The Welcome Back Regatta is almost here and PING, skippered by LYC Commodore-Elect Andreas Josenhans, is tuned up to race. Monday night, a group of volunteers drove 3 hours each way to Amherst to buy the clubhouse a new convection oven. They wound up having to take it in through one of the dining room windows... A great act of volunteering all in support of LYC Big thanks to Barry, Sam, Olin and Jim!

August 6 and 7 th proved to be the perfect time to have the first SailJam 2020 at Masons Island. With many regular sailing events and regattas cancelled due to ...COVID, the island was the perfect venue for Lunenburg Yacht Club and Chester Yacht Club to come together for a friendly, safe competition for the MICA cup. The participants also became the newest MICA members and discovered a bit about MICA islands and their role in supporting and stewarding them. A big thank you to the sailors and their clubs! Mark your calendars! There will be a North Sails Session - Friday, August 21 NS native and North Sails Regatta Services maestro Drew Mitchell will be at the Club on Friday after racing to host a debrief and analysis session for those racing in the LYC Welcome Back Regatta. Next week - come see and learn from the photos and video Drew will be shooting on the water.

The Bluenose II will be passing LYC, sailing to Princes Inlet this Sunday as part of their Sail Past Summer tour. They plan to drop anchor around 7pm and depart around 9am Monday morning.

We're proud that our club has aligned with Sailors for the Sea, a non-profit organization committed to protecting our oceans, for our Welcome Back Regatta. As a part of their Clean Regattas program, our staff and volunteers are working hard to implement practices to minimize the event's environmental footprint. This includes eliminating single-use items, responsible waste management and much more! We're proud to be one of 2,500 regattas and 700,000 sailors who had participated in the program. LYC News - Week of June 15, 2020

Sail Nova Scotia is pleased to host an informative and fun session for all keelboat racers as they start racing in 2020. The session will be led by Luke Porter,... Racing Director at RNSYS and National Race Officer Dan Conrod. The session will be held Tuesday, June 16 at 7pm and go for about 90 minutes. Some of the topics to be discussed include: Race Signals, typical flags used and what they mean Start sequence, and how the OCS penalty is affected by the flag used. Important right-of-way rules specific to racing such as rounding marks and around obstructions. PHRF What is it, typical adjustments, and how to register your boat. 2020 Regatta Guidelines respecting Public Health Measures We might even get into some tactics. This session is geared for those with an interest in racing particularly those new to racing. Even if you're a seasoned expert you might learn something, and it's likely the only thing close to "live sports" on that night. Login details for the session were shared with clubs yesterday so if you're interested check with your club to get them.

LYC's Learn to Sail Program COVID updates include: - Single Handed Sailing Classes - Double Handed Sailing Classes (with restrictions) - Beginner Class Postponements... All updates were made to follow the province's current social distancing restrictions and guidelines. More updates to come in the following weeks. Great news!! Sailing can resume at outdoor facilities as of May 16 at 8 a.m. We ask our members to continue to respect the province's social distancing best practices.

Update: People are now allowed to go to boating, yacht or sailing clubs to prepare boats for use. While this is great news, let’s keep our members safe and continue to respect the Health NS guidelines.

Last week two of our members Glen Dexter and Andreas Josenhans, as well as their sailing mate Sandy McMillian, were inducted into the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame. Congratulations!

Come out and support Sail All! Tomorrow is Sail All's annual fundraiser. There will be a ton of fun activities going on at the club including games, a BBQ, and a silent auction. Sail All has also invited their participants to an open boat day where students and their families can spend the day on the water learning the ropes! ... We hope to see you there!
