/ / E T H I C S & E S T H E T I C S / / In the United States you need a license to practice doing esthetics. Just like hairdressers do here in Canada which is totally fair in order for things to be regulated. Isn't it crazy that you don't need a license here to do esthetics? That means that just about anyone can do your facial without knowing the layers of the skin or comprehending different skin types. This can really damage someone's skin if the wrong advice is given. The... same applies to nail work and infections/fungus that can very easily be transmitted. Esthetics school teaches you the proper way to sanitize tools, to properly prep for any service and everything in between. They teach you what can go wrong, what kind of infections can happen if things are done incorrectly and how to overall be the best esthetician possible (provided you go to a legitimate school). As a consumer; you have all rights to ask your esthetician for her credentials and you most definitely have all rights to asking to see certification in order to be provided with a great service. You wouldn't go to a self trained hairdresser to put highlights in your hair who had no knowledge on professional products or technique, right? So why would you trust someone with your face, feet, hands, etc to provide these services on you if they had little to no training? This sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Not to mention, if an "esthetician" is not certified, they are likely not insured either. Yikes! All this to say - know your rights as a consumer when it comes down to investing your money and know that cheaper isn't always better. Happy Hump Day Luxe babes!
