I like to design decorative pillows ... some with zipper closures, some with velcro or button closures. The yellow cover in progress, will have a flap closure with velcro and a decorative blue edge to match the pillow cover above it, which has a zipper closure. ***LUXURY TRANSITIONS website in link. #maureenluxurytransitions... #custompillows #decorativeelements #interiordecoration #interiordecor #ottawadesigner #ottawadecorator #designhounds #homeinspiration #ipreview via @preview.app See more

This one corner in #magnoliawaybungalow exhibits a perfect example of REPETITION, an important element of design. Of course repeating shapes, colours, patterns and textures, is most often an intentional design aid, adding cohesiveness and interest to a space. But sometimes, the repetition can be a happy coincidence. Read on... I’m going to discuss two repetitive design elements pertaining to this post. 1. ‘Colour’ is the most obvious design element repeated in this vignette.... Various shades of oranges and blues, off white, stained cherry, black and metallic finishes, were chosen intentionally for this, and the spaces connected to this one corner. As a result, there is no visual interruption throughout the open concept rooms, barring existing walls. 2. ‘Shape’ may be slightly less obvious, but repetition of shape is one of my favourite tools for aligning spaces visually.... squares are repeated in the artwork, chair seat and fireplace (not shown) rectangles > buffet, interior shelving in buffet, buffet hardware, pillow, chair back circles > when an existing space is very linear, another reliable go to for me is adding circular shapes, as seen in the stacked enamelware, lamp shade and lamp base, marble coffee table, dishes inside the buffet triangle / diamond > the addition of this shape was both intentional and unintentional. The lamp base, and a floor lamp base (not shown) were intentional repeats, but the rug pattern and chair pattern (swipe <) were a very happy coincidence. In fact, the chair was purchased strictly due to shape, size and contour, and the fabric came with it. But, when placed in the space, the receptive and colour match magic happened. If you look around your own spaces, do you see repetition in colour, shapes, sizes, patterns and textures? If so, you have added continuity and interest to your space.
