HOW IS MY THERAPIST REDUCING RISK OF TREATMENT? We continue to implement all of our infection prevention and control guidelines and we have added some new measures to minimize the risk of treatment. By enhancing precautionary protocols we can decrease the risk of coming in for treatment, which allows us to continue non-emergency but still essential care. Some of these measures include (but are not limited to): Clients who have been indoors without a mask with persons who a...re not a member of their own household (unless that person is from a single person household and has joined their household as per the Ontario guidelines, only one additional single person added to a household and that single person cannot be added to multiple households; or if that person is someone for whom the client provides care) are being asked to delay/schedule their appointment(s) 14 days from the last maskless contact or expected maskless contact. If a client, anyone in their household or anyone they have had unmasked contact with in the last 14 days becomes ill, we ask that they reschedule their appointment until the symptoms subside (If your RMT gets sick, even if it is not COVID-19, they will have to cancel their appointments until their symptoms subside and they have received a negative COVID test) Increased time between clients Reduced number of treatments performed per day Staggering of appointments when multiple therapists are in the office to reduce congestion in common spaces whenever possible Screening prior to the appointment by email (sent 36 hours prior to your treatment) and again verbally upon arrival Disinfecting of all surfaces in the treatment room before and after each treatment Disinfecting of all commonly touched areas in the common areas of the clinic multiple times throughout the day Disinfecting of the bathroom after each use In order to promote circulation in the treatment room your therapist will have the window open or AC running (depending on weather) as well as run a ceiling fan To reduce cross contamination of surfaces in and out of the treatment room, hand washing/sanitizing frequency has increased ASTM Level 3 Medical Grade masks are worn by your therapist and available for yourself to use by request (all persons must wear a mask while in the clinic for the duration of their appointment over their nose, mouth, and chin at all times) ADDITIONAL OPTIONS TO REDUCE YOUR RISK: Increasing the frequency (number of weeks) between appointments (lowers the number of exposures you have over time) Decreasing the duration (length) of your appointment (decreases your potential exposure time)

ESSENTIAL & EMERGENCY CARE How do I determine if my treatment is Essential or Emergency treatment and if I should be coming in for treatment? Some questions to ask yourself: Will my condition (mental or physical) worsen without treatment? (Essential Treatment)... Am I likely to suffer acute, severe or imminent harm if treatment is delayed? (Emergency Treatment) Am I at high risk to experience severe outcomes if I contract COVID-19 (e.g. asthmatic, diabetic, immune compromised, over age 65)? Have I been been or will I be indoors with any person(s) without proper PPE (3 layer mask; covering nose, mouth and chin for the full duration of your encounter) within 14 days of your scheduled appointment with anyone who is not a member of your household (unless they are a person living on their own who has joined your household, or a person to whom you provide care). Am I or anyone I have been in contact with without proper PPE exeperiencing any signs of COVID-19? See more

Massage Therapy Permitted during Emergency Order - https://mailchi.mp/0c69e03402c2/slow-open-7166133 Essential and Emergency Care

RISK/BENEFIT ANALYSIS The CMTO (College of Massage Therapists of Ontario) requires that the benefit of the treatment must outweigh the risk of treatment. As such, our protocols may change to reduce risk of receiving and giving treatment. When determinging the benefit & risk both your mental and physical health will be considered as they are both of great importance. We have seen a huge rise in mental health issues with the pandemic and appreicate that Massage Therapy can play an integral role in helping to manage your mental health.

CANCELLATIONS Should you decide you are no longer comfortable receiving treatment during the lockdown (or at any time) let me know and we will cancel your appointment and resume treatment when you are ready. If you, anyone in your household, or anyone you have had close contact without proper PPE becomes sick, we kindly ask that you consider rescheduling your appointment.

REMINDERS Please arrive wearing a well fitting mask, as close to your appointment time as possible. Your mask must remain over your mouth, nose and chin for the duration of your appointment from arrival to departure, including your time on the table. The clinic door will remain locked until we can safely let you into the clinic, so please arrive as close to your appointment time as possible. In order to stay on schedule and complete required protocols late arrivals will result in a reduction of your table time.

FAMILY GATHERINGS I know that everyone is making hard decisions this holiday season, and we will all be making whatever decision is best for ourselves and our loved ones. Should you have occassion to be inside with someone who is not from your houshold (unless they are a person living alone who has joined your household or an individual you provide care to) and you were not wearing appropriate PPE please consider rescheduling your appointment for 14 days from any potential exposure to ensure the safety of everyone at the clinic.

SCREENING DOCUMENT Please note that the screening document will now be sent with your appointment reminder (36 hours prior to your appointment, as of the New Year), so please remember to complete it in advance of your appointment. As it is a requirement, non-completion could mean cancellation of your appointment. You will also be screened upon arrival before entering the clinic. Please be sure to read the document fully and note that it does allow you to explain why you are ...experiencing any symptom(s). When you checkmark a symptom a new field will pop up, so that you can provide further details (eg: allergies, IBS, chronic headaches etc). This will allow me to determine if the reason is unrelated to COVID-19 or if the symptom is of concern. Early detailed completion of the form will also give the the time to clarify any concerns with you prior to your arrival at the clinic. If your health changes in any way please let us know as soon as possible so we can determine if rescheduling is required. See more

COVID Alert App - What does it do and do I want it? This app does not use or collect data from your phone the way that Facebook and games do, it does not even use your location. Once installed, it uses Bluetooth to ping off of other phones (with the app) in your vicinity every five minutes collecting randomly assigned codes (which change frequently). Should someone with the app test positive they enter a one time key which will then trigger an alert to all codes which were in the vicinity of that phone within the last 48 hours. This app is less invasive than anything else you have installed on your phone since taking it out of the box. I have installed the app on my phone so that I will get such alerts. It will let me know if I have been exposed and should that happen I will get a test to ensure my clients safety.

Just another article to help further our understanding of COVID 19 and to help us realize that scientists are only just starting to understand it. Please be safe, keep your distance and wear a mask when you can't keep a safe distance.

Lindsay Wagner RMT 08.08.2020

Definitely worth the watch to understand how we now understand the disease to be transmitted and what you can do to reduce your exposure. Why are masks so important? How can we reduce our risk? Watch the video for details, the first few minutes are a bit high on the science side but helpful to our understanding of the evolution of this disease, she does get to more practical information quite quickly. Some simple takeaways:... - Wear a mask if you are going to be in the presence of the same person for an extended period of time (the longer you sit in their particle cloud the more likely transmission is) - Meet outdoors for better airflow - Don't sit/stand downwind of someone - If you meet inside, open windows and improve the airflow and limit the duration - Wear a mask whenever you are in the presence of non household members (shopping, downtown for a walk, running errands, visiting friends, even outside) - Make sure your mask fits (it should fit close enough to make a seal, no loose ends or open sides, you want it to move when you breathe) Definitely worth a watch!

Just a little Fact vs. Fiction take on COVID 19 for all of you. There is a lot of misinformation out there and it is good to make sure that you know what is true and what is not.

A person knows the life of other beings only through observation and only so does he know of their existence. He knows of the life of other beings only when he wishes to think of it. - Leo Tolstoy Ignorance is not an excuse and silence is not an option. While we can never know, let us embrace this moment by attempting to understand the struggle of others and actively working towards ensuring that this inequality does not continue. My eyes and ears are open and I will do my best to be a part of the change that is so desperately needed and long overdue.

Not Just Yet The government did announce on May 27th that Massage Therapists could return to work, however there are severe restrictions in place and there are protocols including training that need to be met before we can open our doors. As we received no lead time on what these would be, or when, these are not yet in place. At the present time only appointments that would help the patient avoid hospitalization are approved, there will then be a gradual return to normal ope...rations. We have been directed to prioritize those in the most dire situations not those with discomfort or those wishing to resume usual maintenance treatments. This is definitely not a green light, full speed ahead opening. We are also in one of the areas of Ontario with the highest number of cases (Halton), so we need to take that elevated risk under consideration. I will be sure to contact everyone once protocols are in place and appointments can slowly start to be made. There will be a severe reduction in availability and my hours will likely change as well. This is due to the increased time required between patients for cleaning and avoiding contact between patients as well there will be a limit on how many people can be in the building at the same time. I will also not be booking more than a week out at a time in case the protocols change or we identify areas that need improvement. Please be patient and know that we are working on creating the safest environment that we can during these unprescidented times.

Last day for t-shirt orders, thank you to everyone for the support now and always!

Lindsay Wagner RMT 13.05.2020

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has purchased a T-shirt (or provided other support) so far. I am incredibly lucky to have such an amazing group of patients. Your contributions will go a long way towards helping me set up for a return to practice. We just got a draft of expected protocol from the CMTO yesterday so I can start placing orders. If you would still like to purchase a t-shirt they are available here until Friday: https://www.sorrywereclosed2020.com/store/products/479134

Lindsay Wagner RMT 01.05.2020

Looking for a way to support your massage therapist and would like to help her get supplies for an eventual reopening? Press Time Design out of Welland is running a t-shirt campaign where all proceeds go to the business whose t-shirt you purchase. There is only a limited time to order (this Friday is the last day). Get one while they last, I would be forever grateful! https://www.sorrywereclosed2020.com/store/products/479134 (link updated May 19th) It should be posted soon, there was a huge demand so it is taking some time to load all if the new designs. Oh my goodenss this! Fitness comes in all sizes, it is about what you want your body to be able to do and how you feel in your own skin. Your size alone is not the best determiante of health or strength, so many factors are invlovled. Your Pilates Instructor (or anyone's really) abillity to get you where you want to be healthwise is not solely based on what size clothes they wear; so many factors are at play, what matters more is are they educated, do they practice pilates themselves and are they a good communicator? Have a peek at this article for more on the topic.

If our core isn't engaged it is difficult to move well. If we create a stable base for our limbs to work off of, they will be much better able to perform the tasks we ask of them. Here is a nice explaination of how expansive our core truely is and a video (along with descriptions) of 6 exercises to wake your core up and start getting it engaged.

Lindsay Wagner RMT 25.02.2020

Been stretching those hip flexors and feel like you are getting nowhere? Just because something is tight does not make it strong, sometimes inflexibility not only means that something is short and tight, it can also be weak. Gentle strengthening exercises performed alongside gentle stretching can go a long way towards improving your hip strength. Once the hip is stronger it won't reflexively shorten itself to try to maintain position because the muscle will be able to do its job properly. Check out this series of hip exercises for strengthening, not too many pictures but the descriptions are excellent. Let me know if you have any troubles :)

To wake up and restore the elasticity of your pelvic floor please check out these simple exercises in the video. There is also a great explaination of the pelvic floor and how it works to stabilize us and what happens when it is too tight or out of balance.

Lindsay Wagner RMT 10.02.2020

Although the humerus (upper arm bone) articulates with the scapula (shoulder blade) to create our glenohumeral (shoulder) joint, no real stability or strength comes from this joint. It is rather the four muscles that make up the rotator cuff that work together to move and stabilize our shoulder. Sitting at a desk all day puts a lot of strain on the rotator cuff in a position that is not ideal for function, here is a short series of gentle activating exercises to help our rotator cuff do what it is designed to. These exercises are also a great start to any shoulder rehab. If I've been treating you for shoulder issues some of these should look familiar to you!
