Unusual heart palpitations? Think Lyme. "Lyme manifestations include arrhythmias, pericarditis, myocarditis, and pancarditis, and these may cause cardiogenic shock, sudden death, or cardiac arrest" https://www.medpagetoday.com/casest/infectiousdisease/90880

***REMINDER OF THE BABESIA STUDY BY JOHN SCOTT IS THIS MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2020*** From John Scott (Please note requirements needed for this study): Human Babesia Study in Southwestern Ontario, Canada... A second clinic is being held for our human Babesia study. We are looking to see if a certain Babesia species, which is present in the natural environment, is present in people. Apparently, we did not have enough participants when we held a clinic last year. This clinic is directed to subjects residing in or having a second home in Southwestern Ontario within 50 km of Lake Erie. Anyone is encouraged to attend who experiences the following symptoms: sweats (especially night sweats), chills, or profound fatigue. Other symptoms may include: fevers, increased thirst, muscle aches, and sleep disturbance. Please do not attend this human Babesia clinic if you attended the first clinic. Two vials of blood are required. A professional phlebotomist will be drawing the blood samples. This blood draw is no different than regular blood work for a routine medical check-up. This sample will be sent to a university lab for special testing for Babesia. Once the blood is drawn, participants have no further obligations. Participation is voluntary. The clinic is being held on Monday, November 2, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Caledonia (Grand River Medical Centre, 55 Argyle St. N.). Please pass the word along to your acquaintances and neighbours who have Babesia symptoms, especially night sweats, chills, and profound fatigue. Anyone who has been treated for Babesia with medicines or herbals, and still is symptomatic, is encouraged to attend. Your help in spreading the word about this clinic is greatly appreciated. Masks are mandatory. Temperatures will be taken to meet the COVID-19 requirements. We look forward to seeing you on November 2nd. Best, John D. Scott, Research Scientist, Principal Investigator E-mail: [email protected]

Thank you John and Kit Scott for 30 years advocacy and determination for our Lyme Community. We thank you for trusting us to continue on with the fight! Happy Anniversary Lyme Ontario From Kit Scott;... OCTOBER 28, 1990: Thirty years ago today, 5 Lyme disease patents met in Fergus ON and founded Lyme Ontario. At that time it was called the Lyme-Borreliosis Support Group of Ontario, and later the name was changed to the Lyme Disease Association of Ontario. In 1990, communication was very primitive. There were no computers, no Facebook, no text messages, etc. We had a Remington typewriter, a photocopier, the telephone, Canada Post, and a filing cabinet! Thank you to everyone at Lyme Ontario who are carrying on our vision of public awareness and better diagnosis and treatment for Lyme disease patients across Ontario. There is still much work to be done. We still need most MD's and NP's in the province to acknowledge chronic Lyme, gestational transmission, and sexual transmission. Also, co-infections like Babesia are being greatly overlooked. Let's hope one day soon change will happen so lives can be saved. Happy 30th birthday, Lyme Ontario! -John & Kit Scott

Tick Awareness Canada: Ticks are active across the country! . Thank you to Kaitlyn for sharing her recent tick encounter with us: ... . "I work on farmland that backs onto forest in Ajax, Ontario. We have pulled out about 15 ticks from our horses in the last two weeks alone. I find ticks the worst at this time of year. Tick season is not over." We are happy to see Kaitlyn is very tick aware. . Don't let the end of summer lead you to believe the risks of tick bites has ended. Fall is a VERY active time for ticks. . Be tick safe: Reliable repellent Frequent tick checks

From Geneticks; Keep a look out for #ticks this weekend! Fall is here, and with the cooling weather adult blacklegged ticks are out searching for a meal before winter. Make sure it isn't you or your loved ones! Whenever possible, stay to the center of trails, wear light coloured clothing, and do thorough and frequent tick checks. If you have to venture off trail, consider tucking your pants in to your socks to minimize exposed skin.... In case you don't know what to look for, check out the second for a comparison of male and female black legged ticks! You can see the larger female in the center with a smaller dorsal shield, and the smaller males around her with a larger shield. Neither tick is bigger than 3-4mm long! #tick #tickseason #outdoors #lymedisease #lyme #nature #hiking #hikingadventures #fall #falloutdoors #autumn #autumnvibes #ontario #canada #ontarioisbeautiful #lymeontario #lymewarrior #chronicillness #blackleggedtick #ontarioparks #conservationarea #science
