Robin Sightings Only in Canada will you see so many people get excited by the return of robins. The first robin sighting makes our hearts sing with joy. Spring is finally here! It fills us with hope for warmer, longer days ahead. Growing up, my mom was adamant that we had the same robin that returned to our house every year! Not sure how she could tell it was "her robin" but she was always excited by the first sighting.... In these times of uncertainty, frustration, sadness, and loneliness, may the robins bring you some joy and some hope for the future! Is it Really? If I see something advertised as FREE, my first thought is always "What's the catch". What are you really trying to sell me? However, in this case, it is truly FREE.... The Be Healthy Challenge - Back to Basics is a free 6-week program initiated by @re.knew nutrition and education. Our goal is simple: encourage people to make small changes in their diet and lifestyle so they can feel better physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Gluten or No-Gluten, That is the Question What's the problem with eating bread or gluten? That is probably one of the most asked questions that nutritionists will get. According to this nutrition review of several studies, "gluten affects the microbiome and increases intestinal permeability. It boosts oxidative stress and affects epigenetic behaviour" among other things.... If you suffer from any autoimmune disease, removing gluten would be a great place to start. Not sure if gluten affects you? The best way to know is to remove all gluten for three weeks (I would suggest removing dairy as well) and see if you feel any different. Making Your Own Nut Milk For the past three years, I have worked as a coach for the Academy of Culinary Nutrition @culinarynutrition . I always get inspired by my students as they work on their various assignments. This week, they are making their own nut milk I usually make my milk from a combo of almond & Brazil nuts but decided to try something different with this new combo of Cashews & Hazelnuts ... It didn't disappoint. The cashews added that extra creaminess to the finished milk Here is the simple recipe: 1/2 cup hazelnuts 1/2 cup cashews Soak overnight, drain and rinse. Then add: 3-4 cups water 1 Medjool date 1 tsp vanilla 1/4 cup Irish Moss gel (optional) Blend in a high-speed blender. Pour into a fine mesh bag or nut sack, and squeeze out all the liquid. Enjoy as a dairy alternative. So many of the world's inventions or discoveries are the result of a mistake This is exactly what happened with my grape jelly I followed the same recipe as last year but somehow my jelly turned into toffee. In hindsight, I probably boiled it too long. ... Am I disappointed? Yes a little. But oh la la, that toffee is pretty amazing Lesson from the kitchen: Things may not always turn out the way you expected but the different outcome can be pretty amazing too Bon appétit P.S.
