Here is Monday's adventure video on mountain biking (I know it is Tuesday...so sorry!). I think this is a great sport and have been doing it for many years now. I love the challenge of it, the exercise, being with friends, or alone with my dogs. Just being out in nature is great! Hope you enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM2lKZmhEzA&feature=youtu.be

Here is our math lesson for today. Our challenge today is to make a simple balance scale using a hanger and two plastic bags. Pick 3 or 4 pairs of items that may be close in weight, or may not, and see which one weighs more by placing them on either side of the scale one pair at a time. Take a guess before you measure, and record on a chart if you like (or just explore and have fun is fine too!). Good luck! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awTmCFRyarg&feature=youtu.be

Here is our final language lesson of the school year from St. Lawrence Park. Sorry about missing yesterday. I was at the school and planned to post the lesson from there, but tech problems got in the way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xVKqCLJZWE&feature=youtu.be

Here is our little math challenge for today. We will have a look at the measurement of weight today. Weight is the measurement to tell us how heavy or light something is. The challenge today is to find some things around your house or yard that are small, but heavy, and some things that are big, but light. Discuss what you notice about each? Why do you think it is big and light or small and heavy? Is it the way it is made, what it is made out of? What do you think? Try to f...ind at least 3 or 4 of each thing. Would love to know your thoughts on why at least one of each type is the way it is. Thanks so much and enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4wjFx-v48A&feature=youtu.be

Here is our math lesson for today on capacity, which is the space that something takes up. The challenge today is to choose 4 or 5 similar sized containers and take a guess which holds the most water. Choose a unit of measure (e.g., a cup or scoop) and measure how much each holds in the unit of your choice. Rank them after either from biggest to smallest or the other way around. Here is a sample of my chart. Have fun and good luck! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwrYreYSKvc&feature=youtu.be

Here is a great and fun building challenge you can do outside if you like this week. This is brought to us by one of our students in our class. She made a Fairy Garden for fun in her yard. Love the idea and I will try to make one myself this week to see what I can come up with! Would love to see pictures of what you can do! Thanks so much for the super idea!

Here is our math lesson for today. Our challenge is to make a little ruler for measuring length. In my sample, I have used a 2x4 Lego block, but you could use whatever unit you think is best or have on hand. Try to measure at least 5 things around your house that are shorter than your ruler. Good luck and have fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfS58HUBixg&feature=youtu.be

Here is our math and language lesson for today (mainly math!). The challenge is to pick 4 things to measure either inside or outside of your house. Pick one small thing (e.g., coin), one thing a bit longer (e.g., crayon), one thing longer yet (e.g., table or chair), and one thing that is quite long (e.g., your house or a big room). Then choose different 4 things to use as a unit of measure that might be fine for measuring these things and select the one that is best for each of the items (e.g., for measuring your small object, you might want to use 1x2 Lego blocks, and for a longer thing, you may want to use footsteps?). Have a discussion about which unit of measure is best for the 4 objects and why. Make a chart up and take a guess before you measure. Good luck and have fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LoO_N4QDGo&feature=youtu.be

Here is our math lesson for today brought to us by one of our super families! You are all awesome....just for the record! Challenge is to use Lego blocks or something else that is small and a consistent length to measure some short things. Take a guess before measuring the object and then measure. Try to measure with two different increments (e.g., small blocks and larger blocks) and try to measure two or three different objects for length. Good luck and have fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbWvNLvUP84&feature=youtu.be

Here is the film of my little hike at Landons Bay from last week. Hope you enjoy! It is a great place to explore as a family and get a little taste of what hiking is all about, while enjoying the beauty of our area. Hope you enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7V477_3HWNg&feature=youtu.be

Here is our little math lesson for today. The challenge today is to measure the length of up to 4 things using our feet and steps as measuring tools. Measure 2 things that are a bit shorter and 2 things that are a bit longer. Measure the same thing using regular steps (like walking) and then using your feet toe to heel. For the longer thing, maybe pick something as long as a room in your house and for the shorter things, perhaps try some things around the length of your outstretched arms. Make guesses before measuring and have fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjbW84EY1Fg&feature=youtu.be

Here is our math lesson for today. Challenge is to have a look at a thermometer and look at the numbers and maybe even talk a bit about how it works? Talk about different temperatures and how you would dress at them such as -10 degrees, +10 degrees, and +30 degrees Celsius. Draw a picture if you like showing how you would dress at each one and talk with a family member about why. Good luck! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5qCgb5P0PA&feature=youtu.be
