Lynwood friends we need your help! Romeo from the @OttawaRabbitRescue send us a message that while he likes his foster parents he has one wish for Christmas: to find his forever home! Let's try and make a wish come true for this special bunny! Romeo is an approx 2 year old, neutered, mini Rex male. He is extremely well socialized, brave and enjoys pets and lap cuddles (on his terms). Upon brief interaction with other rabbits in the rescue he has been quite territorial and t...herefore I suspect he may need a long, slow bonding process should there be another rabbit in the home or should you consider a companion for him in the future. That is not to say it can't be done or he may not find someone and think love at first sight, however he seems to be quite dominant and bold for a male. Should you be interested in adopting Romeo, please email [email protected] to request for an adoption application. His adoption fee is $140. Please share this with your friends and family to help this wonderful bunny!

We are constantly re-evaluating our protocols to ensure we are keeping you and our staff safe. Thank you for your ongoing patience and support during this time. https://www.youtube.com/watch

I was pulled from my field, from my work, from my play, Ne'er again to see England, in lands far away, Through death and destruction, through blood sweat and te...ars, I carried my master, along with my peers, So I ask you to remember a while, Along with the soldiers, in smart rank and file, Remember our beauty, the strength of our kind, As we galloped through danger, without care to mind, For we were the horses thrust into war, And we gave up our lives for your peace evermore. September is pain awareness month. "Animals suffer from pain just like people do. Pain comes in many forms: surgical pain, arthritis and cancer related pain, just to name a few. Acute pain is obvious and distressing. Chronic pain can be subtle, and masked as getting old or slowing down. Old age is not a disease, but pain is. There are many options to treat the various causes of pain in animals including pain medications, physical rehabilitation, acupuncture, laser therapy, and therapeutic massage."

As requested here is a picture of a blood smear of a guinea pig. Their white blood cells look similar to those of rabbits. One interesting thing about guinea pigs is that they can have what are called Kurloff cells (as see in the upper portion of the picture). This inclusion is more common in female guinea pig and are thought to act as killer cells.

The registration is a suggested donation of $40 (the normal cost of their in person event), but any amount is appreciated. We talk a lot about the type of bedding used for small mammals. This explains why certain ones are not ok to use.

Lynwood Animal Hospital 07.09.2019

Time to reveal our answer. We had some good guesses to the picture we posted. The picture represented a blood smear: when our RVTs take blood a drop is placed on a microscope slide and spread out and stained once dried. This is important to assess the different cells for morphology. This particular sample was from a bird! Birds (and reptiles) have red blood cells with a nucleus, whereas the red blood cells of mammals don't. The other cell pictured is called a Heterophil and is a type of white blood cell found in birds. Its function is in immunity like the neutrophils in mammals.

Lynwood Animal Hospital 02.09.2019

Let's play a little game today. Our RVTs spend a lot of time behind a microscope looking at a variety of samples. Check this one out. Can you guess what this is and which species it belongs to? We will post an answer later!
