For those of you who don’t have access to high end equipment, here is a one-armed row using a dumbbell. #scoliosisexercise. I’m lifting 50lb in this video, but start with whatever works for you and build up as you get stronger. I’m doing left-armed rows, because my thoracic compression area is on the left. This exercise will build volume and vitality in my compression area. Try it yourself and share your results with me! #scoliosistreatment #noscoliosissurgery #scoliosis

This is a one arm row #scoliosisexercise. It strengthens the mid back muscles, in particular the rhomboids. As always, staying upright and balanced in your torso is important. I do the exercise on both sides, but the left side is my main interest as it's where my compression zone is. #scoliosis #scoliosistreatment #noscoliosissurgery

The first and most important thing I do with new scoliosis clients is identify their compression areas. Compression areas are always found in the concavities opposite the thoracic and lumbar curves, and also beneath the lumbar curve. The goal of treatment is to bring volume and vitality to these areas. Stretching and strengthening exercises, and manual treatment, are all important tools in creating volume and vitality.

Scoliosis exercise: Single arm lat pulldowns. I use this a lot in my #scoliosistreatment workouts. It strengthens important muscles in your back. Using single arms helps you to identify and focus on your weaker side, and also challenges your torso stability in a good way. #scoliosistreatment #scoliosis #noscoliosissurgery

This is a short clip from a #scoliosistreatment session. My 16 year old client's thoracic curve is to the right, meaning that her thoracic compression area is on the left. She is working on a single leg hamstring stretch, while expanding into her compression zone to maintain a balanced posture. As I verbally and manually provide guidance to target the area she needs to affect, there is a mirror placed in front of her so that she can see how her sense of posture and the visual reality match up. #noscoliosissurgery #scoliosis
