Today, Algoma has returned to the COVID-19 Response Framework as Yellow - Protect. While this means that there are some changes to public health measures throug...hout Algoma, yellow is a cautionary colour and the best way to protect yourself and others is by staying home. It is still strongly advised that we: stay at home as much as possible only leave the house for essential trips stay at home when ill, even with mild symptoms avoid social gatherings limit close contact to your household (the people you live with) work from home if you can avoid non-essential travel

Today the Residents of the North Shore Health Network (NSHN) Long-Term Care Home received their first doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Amidst cheers, Lorr...aine Cada, was the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Lorraine, a proud member of the nearby Mississauga First Nation, was a little bit nervous, but simply stated it has to be done. Today was a turning point worthy of celebration, said Nicholas Fraser, NSHN’s Occupational Health & Infection Control Coordinator. He added it feels like the first real strike against an invisible enemy we’ve been fighting for over a year now. Public health emergencies, such as the outbreak of #COVID19 are stressful times for people and communities. Fear and anxiety about #COVID19 can lead to social s...tigma toward people, places, or things. We all need to remember that each confirmed case is a person. They should not be blamed or the target of negative social media posts. Anyone can catch a virus, including #COVID19. We all need to show more compassion. If you know someone with #COVID19 or is self-isolating, you can support them in many ways. Run some errands for them or deliver groceries. You can also connect with them virtually to let them know they aren’t alone. Be kind Algoma. We are all in this together. We all need to take actions to protect ourselves and our community. Stick to your household contacts, limit non-essential travel, wash your hands frequently, wear your face covering, keep two metres distance from others, and remember to practise kindness.
