Another part of the View from 2117 project is the Demographic Analysis Reaching Across Scales and Time Frames. The point of this study is to enhance our understanding of the impacts of rapid environmental, economic, and social change on the resilience of mountain systems. The aim of the research is to also create a greater understanding of how Indigenous communities used the land now known as the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region before colonization. A combination of archiva...l data will be analysed, including historic maps, journals from explorers and early settlers, photographs, and archaeological sources. We are hoping to determine how Indigenous communities were planned and if the Coast Salish peoples in this region used any community planning patterns. #indigenous #resilience #coastsalishpeoples #research #demographics #mountarrowsmithbiosphereregion

Water quality is among one of the most important factors of a healthy and functioning ecosystem, and high-quality water is required for the ecosystem services that humans, plants, and animals rely on. The RDN Community Watershed Monitoring Network promotes this importance through annual monitoring of water quality in the RDN as well as raising watershed health awareness in local communities. Various networks through the RDN volunteer their time each year to collect samples th...at provide data to a provincial database, where the health of regional watersheds is assessed and monitored. MABRRI has been fortunate to be involved in this program for a second year, each year collecting data for a 10 week monitoring period once a week for 5 weeks during the summer low flow period, and once a week for 5 weeks during the fall high flow period. Our final sampling session occurred on Tuesday this week, during which MABRRI researchers saw the last few of this season's salmon making their way up Chase River! #research #watersheds #monitoring #sampling

The Sense of Place Study as part of The View from 2117 project, has completed the first phase of its online data collection efforts (via post-cards in the mail), and is now embarking on phase 2 (via emails and social media snowball sampling) as soon as the existing approved ethics application has been revised. Keep in mind this survey for the Sense of Place study is DIFFERENT from the survey that is already circulating for the VItal Signs study! This one is not circulating on our social media yet. #senseofplace #research #datacollection #mountarrowsmithbiosphereregion
