Congratulations to Dr. Leyla Soleymani, PhD Candidate Roderick Maclachlan, and colleague's who's most recent paper on their innovative "RepelWrap" was published in Small. The article, entitled, "Hierarchical Structures, with Submillimeter Patterns, Micrometer Wrinkles, and Nanoscale Decorations, Suppress Biofouling and Enable Rapid Droplet Digitization." can be read here: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/smll.202004886... . #MacEngPhys #MacEng #ThinkEngineering #Physics #EngineeringPhysics #EngineeringIsForEveryone #ResearchIntensive #WomenInStem #WomenInEngineering
This summer, Daksh Verma worked alongside Dr. Ayse Turak as a Virtual High School Co-op student. Here’s what he said about his experience: I had an amazing five weeks working on condensing a multitude of research papers into a literature review report on the antiviral properties of various types of nanoparticles. Throughout this time, interacting with other high school students and some graduate students through weekly meetings was a pleasant addition to the learning experience as I was able to learn about the broad spectrum of projects the Engineering Physics department works with." #MacEngPhys #MacEng #ThinkEngineering #Physics #EngineeringPhysics #EngineeringIsForEveryone
Dr. Leyla Soleymani, Associate Professor in Engineering Physics, and team have created RepelWrap which has been awarded the Grand Prize of $20,000 in the 2020 "Create the Future" Design Con-test, produced by SAE Media Group (SAE International) RepelWrap is a self-cleaning surface that instantly repels viruses and bacteria. It has the potential to prevent the transfer of superbugs, and the transparent flexible film can be shrink-wrapped to fit onto door handles, railings, ...and other surfaces that act as magnets for bacteria. Leyla Soleymani, Co-inventor, said "I'm really thankful to the judges, and the contest sponsors for providing the opportunity for us to present our innovation to the world. We believe the recognition from this contest will provide us with tremendous opportunities in our efforts aimed at translating this innovation into a marketable product for improving health and wellbeing in our society."
