Squaring up the new machine head after welding it together. I am not a welder so it went quite well considering this was my first time welding something this thick. There was only a slight bit of warping from the heat. I think I could reduce that too by changing the order in which I put the welds down. I would probably also change the size of some of the welds... Overall, I am pretty happy with it so far. I think I am just about maxing out my mill machining parts this big... Time for a bigger mill. :)
When the big chuck is just a bit too big...
Today I machined the back plate for my new machine head... Tomorrow I will start welding it together. The internal parts should arrive in another month or so.
Here is a Flex Spline gear - sometimes called a Harmonic drive - I printed with my relatively new 3D printer. It actually worked out quite well. I don't expect it would work too well for practical purposes as it is only plastic but for this proof of concept it turned out nicely. I even printed the bearing roller elements inside as I grew impatient waiting for the ones I ordered for Aliexpress. Unfortunately it is difficult to see the operation of the gear as it is all con...tained within the housing. The housing ensures all the parts mesh together as they should. I also stated on the video that the gear mechanism has "zero backlash". For this version, that might not be 100% true as it uses a cheap Chinese bearing on the drive shaft. It does feel quite rigid when not rotating though so there certainly is minimal backlash in this version even if not exactly zero. I will upload more details shortly to show more of the inner workings of the device. All parts except the motor, nuts & bolts, snap ring and main (cheap Chinese) bearing were 3D printed. I will replace the printed roller elements inside with the steel Aliexpress ones once they finally arrive. See more
Last time I mentioned I wanted to try 3D printing a timing pulley. It actually turned out very well... The belt engagement is very good and the pulley is quite strong. I am very pleased with the result so far.
This first test print turned out surprisingly well. For an inexpensive printer, I am very impressed.
Newest addition to the shop.... I am curious to see how well printed timing pullies turn out.
Here's a close up.. The last pic trimmed most of the oil pump off.
Added a "one shot" oiler today...
My IH clone cnc project is just about finished. I only have to add the oiler pump and the way covers now. Everything else seems to work well.. I can't wait to actually make some parts soon!
Finally powered up the new MD001-CNC mill.. Seems to be ok so far but there is an X axis servo error.. Just have to trace that one down now...
I managed to finish wiring up the limit and home switches today. I think I might actually be able to try starting this thing up soon...
I finished cutting the T-slots for my 12" cnc rotary table last night. It was my first time cutting T-slots. I am actually quite happy with the results. The next step is to start working on the main body...
Ready to cut the T's for the T-slots...
I am making a large 12" CNC rotary table. To machine the new large table, I needed an adapter plate to mount to my smaller manual 8" rotary table. Now that the adapter is finished, the next step is to cut the T-Slots...
I added a load meter to the front panel too. It wires directly into the VFD for the spindle. Kind of a cool addition to the project...
Just about finished adding the limit switches to my big CNC mill...
Today I made a new coolant manifold to replace the cheap imported plastic one that keeps breaking. Should be much better now...
Drilled and tapped the bearing mount holes and the drive mount holes today...
Started turning my CNC rotary table today...
Finally received the longer servo cables for my cnc machine from China... Hope to have it finally running soon!
We are now offering these amazing 3D Testers. German engineering at it's finest! Checkout our new page for them... www.MachineToolsWarehouse.com/mtw/tschorn.html I will be posting more details shortly...
Still have 3 of these 30 taper spindles for our MD001 (IH Clone) machine. Only $99CDN
Added a new chip tray to my MD001 while I was organizing the new shop. Once I finalize the layout, I can start bolting stuff down..
Finally got my MD001-CNC back together again in the new shop. Just have a bit more wiring to do and it will be running!
MTW has finally arrived at it's new home. I unloaded the Big Steel Box this morning... Now all I have to do is get everything put in It's place.
Bob CAD/CAM v30 is now available!
Still have 4 of these 30 taper spindles left for the MD001 (IH Clone).. Only $99 CDN +shipping
Our design studio just got a 4K upgrade! Woo-hoo!
Most of my machines are taken apart to get ready for the move in a few weeks. I am still able to work on my adjustable dumbbells project though. I finished some more pieces today...
Still have 6 of these 30 taper spindles for our MD001 machine (IH Clone). I am letting them go for $99 CDN each.. message me if you are interested..
Moving day is getting closer... Time to get my X3-CNC ready for the trip. I think there are some 6-7 year old chips hidden back here!
Here is the finished name plate for my MD001-CNC machine. I added a little paint to the letters to help them stand out.
