How do Earth and Mars schedule a vacation? They plan(et). Anyone else ready for something out of this world? They say men are from Mars... so I’m going on a little trip #singleinthesuburbs. ... But really... cookie pucks are puck-ing delicious. Cookie with meteor showers of chocolate, white chocolate craters of goodness, chunks of blazing brownies (ha, that pun even gets me... no, they are not special in any particularly special way), rocks of Mars bars and gravity waves of caramel. Puck drop. Playoffs anyone? Truth be told, I’m a heck of a hockey fan... come by it naturally. I swear, from the day hockey started my grandparents watched every.single.game. On the radio, on the box tube, on the high def... saw them win the cup, wished they would do it again while they were alive... erg, that didn’t quite happen... but they loved it (no, they were in love with it). My grams used to use all her soft swears at the tv & my goodness, you didn’t dare trouble t...hem during a game. We still love hockey. Our last dog was named Tucker, yes... after Darcy... we do our daily hockey picks with @timhortons and can often be found watching the game outside with a cold one (or two!). Finally, as a baker and as an ode to my heritage and UK-based bakers, I’ve found a way to showcase my love for the puck in cookie & brownie pucks. Launched today @urbanmarketpicks and coming next week to @themakershubofdurham, these beauties will come in all the flavours you know and love (yes, cookie butter is in the mix!). CLOSED! Everyone likes a good love story... Valentine’s morning. ... The says February 14. Polar vortex, you’re warm and snuggled in your bed, filled with happiness and appreciation. The best question is always: What’s your favourite treat? For me, that answer has been the same since I was small... @goodhumor_icecream ... Big surprise, my sweet is humorous. These bars also came in chocolate eclair (my mom’s favourite) and were sold in Canada for quite awhile, but now can only be found in the States. During my most recent (a few years now) trip to Nashville with @ashmcwhirter13 & @bakdbybell, our first stop off the flight was to @target. While they looked for healthy food options, I went to the frozen aisle. First purchase: strawberry shortcake dessert bars. Thankfully, our little place had a freezer, because I bought the 6-pack. That flavour has been absolutely impossible to replicate... until I met my bestie baker @cupcakes_by_lindsey. If you want to drool daily, follow her page. I beg her to ship here, but apparently cupcakes won’t travel well... pfft. She’s been such a gem to chat with, share recipes and ideas with and talk about all things baking, ingredient lists, regulations and life. I swear, if that gal lived closer, we would have already opened up a shoppe. One day on her stories, this cupcake caught my eye. I actually paused and said, ‘WHAT. THE.____.’. The last word there was fudge, obviously. The rest is history. She shared her trade secrets and even while making these babes, she was right there (well, in cyberland), teaching me her tricks. Let me tell you... if IG pictures had a scratch and sniff option, your senses would be sparkling with strawberry, cheesecake, cookie crumb, whipped cream... and magic, yup just pure magic. Each of these was like a little cake. Seriously. 1 cupcake is almost too much. Yum. All that to say, until @goodhumor_icecream brings back my snack-of-snacks, these are a very close second. Thought I’d take a little pause. There’s this funny thing about owning a bakery that no one ever tells you... it makes you feel like you belong to a small town. Every day of this experience has felt like the reason I started up in the first place: fulfillment. ..... That little girl in the picture was the silliest, sassiest, happiest little thing you’d ever see. Guess why. I was surrounded by family (and cake). That picture was taken on my fourth birthday, at my grandparents house in Lion’s Head. A sweet little village on the Northern Bruce Peninsula. That place always felt like home. Especially the corner store, where everyone knew your name (and your most recent life stories - my grams liked to talk about her kids and grandkids while sitting on the very uncomfortable stools that sunk after a few minutes of swivelling). As a founding family, perhaps you’ve heard of the Greig Caves (that’s my famjam), we had and have a very rich history up there. The entire town is filled with people that love us; people that knew my grandparents (and have lots of stories about them) before they passed, that saw me grow up every summer. It was there that I grew to adore country music, fell in love and had my first heart break, drank whiskey, made s’mores and stared all night at starry skies. That felt like home. My Grams was one of my (baking) inspirations. Her home made cakes and pies... cookies and treat drawers. I loved whatever she made (except the rhubarb pie) and she made me this chocolate cake. I always wondered where my love for valentines cinnamon hearts came from and when I saw this picture, I knew. I remember her putting this cake in front of me, smiling so big and sneaking a chocolate covered cinnamon heart off the top. That smell and taste will forever stay with me as one of the happiest times in my life. .. Every time you let me in on your special days; your stories; your pictures... it feels like a small town. Thank you for blessing me with such a fulfilling feeling. Nothing will top that cinnamon heart, but golly, it’s close!

A special little order. There seems to be a lot babies coming along lately. What, were ya’ll bored during the beginning of the pandemic? Just kidding (kinda). More and more people seem to be opting out of the public reveals and opting in to the personal reveals... with little surprise drop-offs (like this one). I’m a little in love with that idea. It reminds me of the storks delivering a baby, but instead it’s a stork(ish) delivering the sweets. The benefits of being a bak...er, is that you get to be a part of the cutest parts of people’s lives (the baby reveals, the showers, the birthdays, the weddings, the anniversaries). Recently, a couple dropped off little boxes at their parents, siblings and friend’s houses filled with pink sugary delights. They all opened their boxes together over a zoom meeting and the squeals were adorable. Gatherings may not currently be in, but celebration is always in style. It’s been awhile since I’ve made these pretend ice cream dipped @ricekrispies_ca treats, but like I said, this week has been nostalgic and boy (erg... girl) did I ever mean it. On the holidays, we would always make up one batch of these to go with the assortment of 18625219+ treats in the house. I can remember one year, we put them out... went to grab one a little later and they were already devoured. Were there kiddos in the house? Mmm, nope, but there was my Gramps. That year, we made five batches of these (of course, one for the road for him). He was always an absolute fiend for marshmallows (and happy hour - but that’s for another cute story). I swear it’s what powered him to still be an active lumberjack right until he hit 90. . Alright, alright... let’s be honest here... I was like mmm, feel like a good chocolate chip cookie doesn’t need an extra dash of sweetness with buttercream piped on top. I stand corrected. ... A chocolate chip cookie absolutely needs whipped buttercream dreamily swirled on top. These colours always remind of me of . Those weeknight hang outs where we learned a new skill or really just played and crafted until we were so tired. I used to go with my next door neighbour and best friend, Elise. We wore our super cute pink sweaters that said I promise to share and be a friend. That entire experience was filled with love, sticky sparkles and buckets of belly laughs. Fittingly, in 1985 (the year I was born), @carebears, my all-time favourite show... also released ‘ ’. Ironically, Share Bear had a milkshake on her tummy badge... but that was later changed to two lollipops (because sharing a milkshake could spread germs - how fitting to our realities of today!). When I think about Valentine’s, I affectionately remember, that to activate the and spread cheer and love, those little bears first had to activate their tummy. Sounds... like... ya’ll need to activate your tummies! I hear those sleigh bells... I have to take a beat to soak all of this in. Every morning for the past month, I have woken up to messages, emails, tags and texts about these jolly bombs. As a gal that loves trends and lives for the spirit of Christmas... making, decorating, packaging, labelling and tasting has sparkled up my soul. ... When I was tiny, my mom and I tried so many times to make little chocolate melt lollipops and treats around the holiday season... and laughed every time the chocolate just didn’t feel like melting. As a cupcake baker, this has been so new to me... there’s been broken bombs (not hearts, yay!), marshmallows found in the craziest places, smashed candy cane dust filling the air, countertops coated in the most impossible to remove chocolate and buckets on buckets of laughter to the soundtracks of Sound of Music and Christmas Essentials. All of that to say, my family has been nothing short of extraordinary. From lined up supply errands, to market drop offs, from labelling and packaging to cleaning... so much cleaning. I’m so blessed to have such kind, compassionate, considerate and patient people surrounding and supporting me. I could say thank you a million times, but you know me and you know I have always have a grateful heart. Either way, thank you. To the beautiful people who hopped on the trend, to those who love snuggling up with a hot chocolate, to my customers who shared their cutest videos, or to those sweet souls who just put love out and shared the products because they are filled with kindness... gosh, thank you. Yes, I’m sold out... but yes, every once in awhile, there are extra, so keep checking in and please know I’m covered in chocolate and bursting with happiness.
