Great advice from a local therapist in Saint John. A lot of my own clients over the years have heard me advise, "Dont should on yourself!" (mostly because Im nerdy and love a good word play). But it is true, particularly in this time. My endless supply of positivity is taking a hit, for sure. Be kind, especially to yourself. ~ Natalie

Shared from my genius OT friend Jenna! Our daily routine consists of lots of "occupations" that provide much needed structure to our day and fulfill our self-care, productivity and leisure needs. Anyone else feeling a bit lost without the normal morning rush-school drop off-coffee break-work-kid activities day? I know I am! Those are the things that structure our day and our life and provide meaning and connection. Until we get back to that, this guide may provide some helpful tips and tricks to #getthroughthistogether! ~Natalie

Hello everyone! Along with most of you, I am now at home in this new normal of "social distancing". Anyone else struggling?! Working, keeping the kids on task with school / educational lessons, getting enough exercise, fresh air and moderating my news intake has been an adjustment. Now that many offices have moved to tele-work, it is time to review our home workstations... laptop on the couch, anyone? Working from home doesnt have to be more painful than it already is :) -... Watch your posture (see below) - Set up a routine; sleep/wake times, shower and get ready for work like you typically would - Get dressed! Even if it is comfy clothes (leggings and hoodies should from now on be appropriate business casual attire) - Move often; stretch, walk around the house and go for a walk on your lunch break And when you finally get back to the office, MacKenzie Occupational Therapy will be ready for all your Ergonomic Assessment needs! ~ Natalie

It is so important to use person-first language when we talk to and with our clients. Especially with mental health conditions; using person-first language reduces stigma and humanizes the issue. I still shudder when I hear the term "schizophrenic" ... lets start changing our language to "a person with schizophrenia". Small steps to end stigma!

This is so interesting. Occupational Therapists as first responders for seniors who fall at home. We can prevent future falls on the spot - great idea! #fallprevention #OT
