Mackenzie's Annual Spring GoByBike Week starts on Monday, May 31 with a Kick Off Station in the Spirit Square in front of the Mackenzie Recreation Centre. Pick up your I Spy Scavenger Hunt and Passport Card at the Kick Off Station or the Recreation Services Front Desk and submit by June 6 to win prizes. We are so thrilled to announce that LITTLE MAC SKI HILL will be OPEN for business starting tomorrow, Tuesday, December 22, 2020!!! During the holiday season, the hours have been adjusted to: December 22 - 24 11am-3pm December 25 & 26 Closed... December 27 - 31 11am-3pm January 1 Closed January 2 & 3 11am-3pm Mask use will be mandatory for use when arriving from your vehicle to the hill, while on the tow, and in the Ski Chalet. Remember to go to the Recreation Centre to purchase your Season Pass, and then head up to Little Mac Ski Hill directly once you have it! Child 1-6 FREE Adults $36.80 Youth/Senior $18.40 Family $73.60 Regular hours will begin on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. **Schedule subject to change, and is dependent on weather**

Starting Saturday, January 2, 2021, all Pickleball play will require a drop in general admission, or included in a membership/punch pass. You can still call to schedule your own play at 250-997-5283 pending room availability. However, as per PHO regulations, it is still 1 vs 1 play until otherwise stated. We are so thrilled that Pickleball has really flourished here! Keep up the play!

The rumours are true!! We are planning a Community Holiday Parade! Since we can't be together for special events this year, we will come to you! Set your clocks for Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 4:00pm and wait for us to drive by! *We suggest that you try to avoid travelling through these areas at the time of our parade, we don't want you to get stuck in it!**

Lights, camera, action! The outdoor rink is open for business again now that the temperatures are colder! And now with LIGHTS! Just push the button located in the red box behind the Recreation Centre for 1.5 hours of play!

We have received a new Provincial Health Order that directly impacts the Mackenzie Recreation Centre. Structured programs and sports for children and youth under 19 may continue as long as the conditions listed are met; including no close contact between participants. Minor Hockey, Figure skating, and Kid’s programming may continue for now but participants must keep three (3) metres physical distance and follow all direction from their Provincial Sports Organizations and th...eir established COVID-19 Safety Plans. Indoor, group, low-intensity fitness is "paused" until new safety plans are created following the publishing of new PHO guidelines. These are supposed to be available next week sometime. Impact to us Temporary suspension to Aquafit and Zumba. We will have our safety plan amended and ready to go as soon as we receive the new guidelines. Indoor and outdoor adult team sports are suspended indefinitely. Impact to us - Longer term prohibition to Adult hockey and Curling. Any group of adults with more than two members is included in this category and this is effective immediately. Pickleball will only be allowed 1 on 1 play. When the guidelines are published next week we may be allowed to resume some of our activities. So far, there is no word on restrictions to individual fitness and exercise, so we are good for now for the gym and public swimming at the pool. This situation is changing rapidly and there may be more impact to our operations as we move forward. We will keep everyone posted as we learn of new developments. Please stay safe and healthy!

Yikes! We got a ton of snow!! A huge shout out to the Recreation Services team for creating and clearing the outdoor rink for everyone to enjoy! Thank you!! We love having this option for the community to skate outdoors! Make sure to tag us in your outdoor rink photos! We love seeing them!

The District is looking for 30 live Christmas trees to decorate the outdoor rink and ski hill. Until further notice, residents will be able to drop off their undecorated trees in a designated area behind the Recreation Centre starting Monday. Please remove all decorations, tinsel and plastic bags prior to dropping off your tree.

Good Morning Mackenzie, the outdoor rink is cleared and ready for today, weather permitting so far. Please remember to social distance, be safe, and have fun!

The District of Mackenzie would like to notify patrons that the Aquatic Facility is closed immediately for precautionary measures as a result of bacteria present (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) in water samples. We apologize for any inconvenience and will update the public when more information becomes available - including the date we plan to open again. The Health Unit is currently running more tests for us to ensure the results are accurate. ... Some common issues that cause pseudomonas in a pool are: Bathers not showering; a shower before entering the pool is important. Bathers that have an ear infection, UTI, or rash that attend the pool. Biofilms build-up due to the pool being closed for an extended period of time. A warm damp environment. Organic matter, such as plants near the pool.

Since it is Hallowe'en on Saturday, October 31, 2020 we have updated our Swimming sessions to allow for closing 6:00pm in time for the FIREWORKS! Make sure to pre-register before coming.

Rise and grind Mackenzie! The outdoor rink behind the Recreation Centre is open today for the public and will likely closed again on Sunday due to weather - updates will be posted on social media. It’s early and a little rough in some places, so avoid those areas and be safe. Remember to social distance, wear a helmet and be respectful to other users. Enjoy the fresh air and open space We still have some work to do including adding a shelter for tying skates, lights with a timer and more end boards to stop pucks. The forecast doesn’t look good for Sunday or the rest of the week, so we anticipate this work being complete before the next time we can open - we will do what we can to keep it open once Mother Nature is ready. Please post pictures and tag us in them of you enjoying the space, so we can share with staff and volunteers.

HALLOWEEN FIREWORKS!! We are pleased to announce that we are still offering our longstanding Halloween Fireworks tradition! Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 7:00pm... However, due to COVID-19 we have had to make some changes. There will be no gatherings or standing outside to watch the fireworks. We suggest all viewers stay in their vehicles for the duration of the fireworks show. The Recreation Centre will be closed to the public at 6:00pm and there will be no washroom access.
