There are 85 dedicated members of the MacKinnon & Bowes team are working over Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. Many firms generously give their s...taff time-off to be with family during the holidays. This results in December 25th being the busiest day of the year for MacKinnon & Bowes. I am proud of our dedicated staff that give of themselves in service of others at this very special time of year. There dedication, commitment, and sense of duty enables others to spend Christmas with their families. For this and their professionalism, I am sincerely grateful. The telephone answering division will receive calls for over 800 firms world wide. It is a tremendous responsibility for these dedicated individuals to support the requirements of so many. My employees dedication is very much appreciated by everyone that works at MacKinnon & Bowes and also those that receive the benefit from their sacrifice today. Thanks very much our group and a Merry Christmas to all. See more

FSAC is meeting with Federal MP's from all parties to restore the 1997 CPP Death Benefit. The Canada Pension Plan underwent major reforms in 1997 to put it on more sound financial footing. Premiums were increased and benefits decreased. The death benefit went from 6 months' of benefits, up to a maximum of $3,580, down to a maximum of $2,500 and it has remained fixed there since, eroded every year by inflation. Efforts are also being made to raise Eligible Funeral Arrangements (Pre-Paid) trust ceilings for CRA and index annually for inflation.

The Dieppe Raid: August 19, 1942 Of the 4,963 Canadians who embarked for the operation, only 2,210 returned to England, and many of these were wounded. There we...re 3,367 casualties, including 1,946 prisoners of war; 916 Canadians lost their lives. The RCAF lost 13 aircraft and 10 pilots; RAF lost 106 planes and 81 airmen - the highest single day total of World War II. Lord Mountbatten, who was responsible for the debacle, had sent out a press release before the raid claiming victory, and it took several months for the Canadian public to learn the truth about what had happened. Many families had been told that there loved ones had died when in fact they had been taken as POW'S. Because of the misinformation about the raid some of the Veterans were called cowards or worse when they returned. We must Remember this terrible event. We owe it to the Fallen and the POW'S. Lest We Forget.

This terrible Pandemic is taking a toll on everyone. The dedicated professionals at MacKinnon & Bowes are working harder than ever to deal with the needs of so many people across North America that rely on them now more than ever. Like many others in our profession, they work around the clock in very adverse and challenging conditions with very little acknowledgement. Recently, a cardboard heart was taped on the front door with a message to those that work at this company. Such a little gesture means a great deal to those that continue to work so hard every day and every night until we can get past this terrible virus.

In Waters Deep - Eileen Mahoney In ocean wastes no poppies blow, No crosses stand in ordered row, Their young hearts sleep... beneath the wave...... The spirited, the good, the brave, But stars a constant vigil keep, For them who lie beneath the deep. 'Tis true you cannot kneel in prayer On certain spot and think. "He's there." But you can to the ocean go... See whitecaps marching row on row; Know one for him will always ride... In and out... with every tide. And when your span of life is passed, He'll meet you at the "Captain's Mast." And they who mourn on distant shore For sailors who'll come home no more, Can dry their tears and pray for these Who rest beneath the heaving seas... For stars that shine and winds that blow And whitecaps marching row on row. And they can never lonely be For when they lived... they chose the sea. See more

COVID-19 continues to be an ever-evolving crisis. As cases grow, funeral service is responding to the pandemic with open arms while facing risks to the personal health and safety of its professional corps. The Funeral Service Foundation's Crisis Response fund is designed to be flexible and will provide grants for immediate needs including funeral service emergency response to significant loss of life, to organizations and resources providing service to families with unresol...ved and complicated grief due to loss during this crisis, and for other important needs of the funeral service profession and the families we serve. The Fund will consider proposals from US 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations and Canadian registered charities. Non-exempt organizations, such as US or Canadian funeral homes, can apply for funding when working in conjunction with an exempt organization which agrees to serve as the fiscal agent for the grant, such as a state association. Consider a donation now by contacting the Funeral Service Foundation. Thanks to our friends at Homesteaders Life Company, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar up to $100,000! See more

Wednesday January 29, 2020, We really enjoyed hosting Krista O’Donnell, Chief Advancement Officer Of Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology and Jason Pow...ell, PHD, Senior Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellness of Humber College. Jason & Krista enjoyed touring our facility and meeting many of our staff that graduated from their wonderful institution of advanced learning. All of us at MacKinnon & Bowes feel strongly about supporting education and helping those that choose to follow a career path in our profession. To reinforce our commitment to that cause, we were proud to make a $1,000.00 donation to the Humber College SOS (Support our Students) emergency bursary fund. This fund supports students in need of some financial assistance for unforeseen financial requirements that pop up during the school year. See more
