We all have an unsuspected reserve of strength inside that emerges when life put us to the test. It’s hard not to feel heavy and more than a little let down after the latest Provincial Government announcement. Feelings of lack of agency and loss of control can be overwhelming.... While we truly believed our Government’s Roadmap to Reopening is overly risk-adverse, we have no alternative. The fitness industry has been completely excluded from the dialogue. Despite overwhelming evidence that a healthy, active lifestyle is paramount in the fight against COVID-19, we have been unfairly relegated to Step 3 of the process. As much as it is hard to digest and see a measure of positivity in this statement, at least there is an end in sight. So here’s where we dig deep and tap into that reserve of strength and power through with resilience. It’s a mindset. It’s hope. It’s time to shine! The end is near. We are so close and we live for the day when we can re-open our doors to you all, and have our MAD house come alive again! Sending out MADlove. Happy Long Weekend. Take in the good!

We don’t do enough ab work...where are all the crunches and sit-ups?!?! They’re off of our floor. Do isolated ab exercises target your midsection? Sure.... Are isolated ab exercises the most efficient way to train your core? Absolutely not. Rather than hyper-focusing on isolation movements and throwing in a random set of sit-ups into the daily interval, we (safely) load your fundamental movement patterns with weight, as well as apply advanced principles such as tension and anti-rotation to our multi-joint movements. This approach carves out a more complete approach to core training than any number of crunches will. And here is an important tip from her If dialing in your nutrition is new to you, understand that making big changes will come through adjusting your smaller habits. Stop trying to bite off more than you can chew...trying to change everything at once will just overwhelm you and burn you out.... Start small, then layer on the next habit as you get comfortable. For example: if you’ve never monitored your food quality, maybe you don’t start by tracking your intake. Instead, start by simply getting used to adding more micronutrients to your day and making a habit of adding vegetables to your primary meals. Once you nail that, evaluate protein consumption and get in the habit of including a protein component in meals + snacks. Then add crushing your water intake to the docket. Then you can apply focus to your daily movement. Get up & walk around more. Take the stairs. Park the car farther away. Bottom line: you don’t have to do it all at once. Layering these habits will take time. Acknowledge that, accept it, and don’t be in a hurry. Each step forward may feel small and insignificant, but it’s the small habits that add up to make a big difference OVER TIME. So quit your bitching about how long it’s taking to make progress.
