UPDATE IN THE LAW: As of last week, the Government of Ontario issued an Emergency Order allowing virtual witnessing of Wills and Powers of Attorney for Property and Personal Care during Covid-19. This is a huge milestone in the law being progressive in times of need. MSC continues to help their clients with their estate planning during this difficult time. We are taking instructions for Wills and Powers of Attorney by video conference and telephone. Given this new change, we will now be able to use video calling technology such as Facetime, Zoom, Skype or other video chat software to witness the signing of the documents.

We confirm that law offices are on the list of essential workplaces released by the Government of Ontario. We will continue to serve our clients within the prudent guidelines to keep clients and staff safe.

Update from the MSC team in response to the increasing pressure and protocol of COVID-19 Madden Sirman & Cowle Law will remain open and transactions are closing as scheduled. For real estate transactions and mortgage deals, currently, some Land Registry Offices and major banks remain open which allow our services to continue to operate. However, if either the bank or Registry Office closes in the future, unfortunately no real estate transactions can be closed. If an extensio...n is necessary, this will need to be discussed with all parties. We have also received many phone calls in regards to Wills. We will be providing telephone appointments. We understand this is a very stressful and unfortunate situation to be dealing with and we want to serve our clients as best we can during this time. Please know while making the decision to stay open, we are amplifying our efforts to create a safe and healthy space for ALL of our clients and staff during this time. You will see us committed to the following protocols: providing hand sanitizer/hand wipes to ALL clients and staff entering and leaving the office an enhanced cleaning regiment maintaining an open dialogue with our staff and clients as updates on the situation are issued monitoring our staff and their well-being and conditions daily client meetings that usually would take place face to face can be arranged online or by phone If you need to sign any documents in the presence of witnesses, we can accommodate you in many ways while maintaining social distancing including using ground level windows at the law office. If home or hospital visits are necessary, we will handle on individual basis to safely accommodate. If your matter is not time sensitive, please feel free to contact our office at 613-354-2161 to re-schedule any appointments. If you have COVID-19 symptoms, recently travelled or believe you have come into contact with someone affected by the virus, please contact us immediately. We will do our best to accommodate your matter. The health and safety of our staff and clients is our greatest concern. While we monitor the situation daily we feel the protocols we have put in place will allow us to safely operate during these unprecedented times. We welcome any further questions or concerns via email or phone.
