Even in the darkest times, we turn to love

Madison Robertson Photography 18.07.2020

I miss my couples I miss capturing their love, getting to know how they first met, and hearing about their plans for the future. I miss them laughing at each other because someone made a funny face to the camera, or forgot to smile at the last minute. I miss the exciting messages I get from them when they get their photos back, and all the comments from their families and friends when they post their first picture on Facebook. I just miss it, that’s all. @ Kingston, Ontario

Jessica and Brad took me back to where they got engaged for our romantic engagement shoot last fall, and it was SO dreamy. They danced, laughed, and ran through the forest together... while I got to capture it all. I can’t wait until their wedding to get to capture even more special moments @ Prince Edward County

I’ve been struggling lately to find motivation to post or work on my business, given everything that is going on in the world. Being stuck at home most of the day, you would think I would have loads of time to do work and catch up on everything. But instead, it’s been hard. My creativity is down, motivation is low, and anxiety is high. But I know we will get through it! So instead I’m just sending love and positive thoughts to everyone

What do you love about your job? I am a FIRM believer in loving what you do. To enjoy life, you might as well make the most out of our time here on this earth. So every few weeks I make a point to sit down and write out things I love about my job. That way, if I ever find myself struggling to write things down, or not having anything at all to write, then I know it’s time to find something new. ... Luckily, I still have SO many parts of this job I love. The people, the hard worki, the creativity. Every day and every session is new. I still have a lot to learn, and not every day is easy or happy. But I know my passion and love for photography is always there. So, what do you love about your job? See more

Okay how absolutely adorable are these two? I feel like I am now at the adult stage of my life. I know, I’m 24 so that sounds weird. But I have officially reached the age where my friends, friends of friends, and people I went to high school with are now getting engaged, married, and having babies. and it’s SO EXCITING. @ Kingston, Ontario

Madison Robertson Photography 09.02.2020

The greatest thing I’ve ever done for my business was talk to other photographers. I am completely self taught (other than a fun high school photography course way back in the day). So my ability to learn was complete up to myself. Luckily I have been able to admire, be mentored by, have friendships, were photographed by and shoot alongside a lot of great photographers during the past two years.... So much of my knowledge and growth came from these amazing individuals. Everyone has something unique to teach, just like everyone has something they need to improve on. I think it’s so important to support and work with other individuals within your work (when you are able to). These people have made me a better photographer in so many ways, and I hope I can take this and pass it along to others like me See more

Today has been a lazy Saturday spent buying house decor, doing homework, and dreaming about all the yummy photoshoots that are coming up this summer

Madison Robertson Photography 13.12.2019

How did you even start to grown your business? A question I’ve gotten a lot from fellow entrepreneurs, friends, and boss babe (yes, I use this term and I love it). I honestly didn’t really know the answer to this question until recently. I use to say it just happened. But, then I realized I put a lot of work into getting my business started. It wasn’t close to being perfect, I don’t think it ever will be. But starting out, I focused on getting my name out there and j...ust practiced, practiced, and practiced. For me, I photographed anything that moved. I spent all my free time asking friends to model for me. I set up random photoshoots every weekend. I quickly found out that word-of-mouth is huge, especially when starting out. Someone likes your work? They will most likely recommend you to a friend or family member next time they are looking for your service or product. And then ... make sure you share it all! Don’t be afraid to share your work with the world, consistently. Don’t be scared to post lots, and post what YOU want, not what you think other people want. In the end people will hire you/buy your product because they like it and like you. Authenticity is golden See more

You don’t know how amazing it is to photoshoot a wedding and see a clients engagement photos printed and out for everyone to see! Shauna and Lewis made it extra special by creating a unique guest book by having them sign a photo frame. A small DIY creation that made their special day that much more memorable. Now they will have this memory up in their house for years to come

Madison Robertson Photography 01.11.2019

I asked what you wanted to read more about in 2020... one consistent answer was my business plan!! Photography started fairly normal for me... I played with my moms camera, took way too many pictures with my phone, and had a few basic high school photography and photoshop courses. Then one December evening, I was bored. It was 1am and I couldn’t sleep. I had my own DSLR camera for the past year, mostly for taking pictures of traveling and my dogs. I always wanted to d...o more with my camera but didn’t know how or when to start. By that night, I was just tired and frustrated. So, I opened my computer and said why not! I made a photography Facebook page with no huge planning ahead, and just put it out there that I was offering some free photo sessions for practice. From that day on, my business has grown and I’m honesty so happy I just went for it with no real plan or idea on how to run a business. I’m happy because I didn’t second guess myself, I didn’t spend months trying to perfect my Facebook or website. That came after, when my business grew. I spent the next 2 years learning, and I will continue to do so every day, with every photo session, and every client. My biggest tip for people is just go for it, take the leap of faith. You don’t know how it’s going to turn out unless you try. No business will ever be perfect starting out, so start now, and focus on learning as you grow! See more

I can’t help but smile when looking at these family photos... there’s so much love and happiness I could burst @ Carol's Christmas Tree Farm

Madison Robertson Photography 13.10.2019

I want you to get to know ME! Choosing your photographer is such an important decision, whether it’s for a one hour lifestyle shoot or a full day wedding. So here are some unique things you may expect if I’m your photographer: - I will encourage you to book during golden and sunset hour. It’s my fav. If we’re at a wedding and the sunset is pretty, I’m stealing you for 10 minutes - I have been known to give my jacket and shoes to cold brides in need... anything to make... your day go smoothly - I have some pretty unique posing ideas... be prepared for some laughter, butt bumps, silly talk, and drunk walking. I promise they are fun, we’ll have you giggling in no time - I’m a sucker for rings. Wedding ring, engagement ring, I love them all and will be getting lots of pics - If you bring a pet, I will be forever your best friend/pet sitter. So far I’ve had dog, cat, and gerbil - If were going for a meeting, I will suggest Starbucks because I’m addicted to their coffee. I’m not sorry for it - At some point during our shoot I will most likely be laying in the dirt/grass/mud/water ... just go with it - I am so thankful for each and every one of you So that’s just little about me ... and if any of those interesting facts above speak to you, send me an email or DM and we can talk about YOU and all your photography needs See more

Sunsets.. like each couple they are unique and special. I always tell my couples to try and set around 10-15 extra minutes during their reception to sneak away for sunset pictures They are colourful and magical and I promise you, you won’t regret it @ Kingston, Ontario

Madison Robertson Photography 13.09.2019

The hour or two between the ceremony and reception is so special, make sure you take advantage of it. It is time for you, your new husband/wife, and your photographer (forever the third wheel) to have some fun and capture some truly magical moments. It’s a time to relax a little, have some fun, and capture some photos that you will cherish forever @ Prince Edward County

Madison Robertson Photography 03.09.2019

I love ring shots. Every brides ring is different than the last. Each one is beautiful and unique in their own way. But it’s not just about the bride. The grooms wedding band is just as special. I’ve seen different material, carvings, and engravings ... each just as meaningful

Madison Robertson Photography 25.08.2019

This rooftop sunset session was one of my favourites of 2019 I feel like there had always been this voice in the back of my head that reminds me that there are always people who are better at this than me. That little voice makes you think, should I even try? What’s the point of doing something if someone can just come along and do it better than you.... But it took me a really long time to realize that if the only reason I was doing this was to be better than others, then I should just quit now. I am a photographer because I get to capture love, just like this rooftop session. I am a photographer because I love it. See more
