Ever seen that #ItsAlwaysSunnyInPhiladelphia where Frank becomes an art collector? Im no Ango Gobloggian, and I wasnt trying to get my friends pieces into galleries, but I was curious to meet some local artists and drive around to check out my new area. What youll see in (and on the way to) these stops is pretty darn cool, and I was quite blown away when I checked out this event last year. Known as The Most Beautiful Art Tour in Alberta, its really just picking a day (o...f three) to check out some amazingly talented and diverse world-renowned artists, while driving some great routes through the land where the prairies meet the mountains. An open studio tour, this celebration as part of #AlbertaCultureDays is a must check out when it happens from September 25th to 27th. Participating will mean you stop at both galleries and studios, checking out works in progress, outdoor and ceramics exhibits, glass blowing, paper arts demonstrations, an optional 3km Bird Box Art Walk, and so much more! For all the details, head over to The Most Beautiful Art Tour in Alberta and check out their website, complete with artist profiles, full schedule, and some info about safety and what to expect during this years version of the tour. If youd like to check out some of the artists, follow Mady Thiel-Kopstein www.mady.ca (painting), Susan (mixed media/paper) at http://kristoferson-studio.ca/, Eversfield Ceramics David Barnes (ceramics), or Firebrand Glass Studio (glass blowing) to check out some amazing work! Home to a collection of artists, styles and events, you can follow Bluerock Gallery, Leighton Art Centre, Lineham House Galleries and Okotoks Culture & Heritage (Okotoks Art Gallery) as the studios participating! Just like Frank, make sure to play it subtle. You break it, you buy it. Also, I yoinked pictures from Mady, Susan, and David, as well as the video from Julia cause I cant find mine. #MostBeautifulArtTourinAlberta #FoothillsFriday #RoamingRyan #FoothillsFrolicker #Art #AlbertaArt

Met this local legend last year during the very cool Busk n Bragg festival. This edition of #FoothillsFriday will introduce you to him, and the cool experience this whole event is! This handsome fella is named Hendrix and hes a locally owned goat who helps serve as an ambassador of the #BraggCreek area. While we did snap this picture, we didnt get much of chance to talk so, Im not sure how old he is, what type of music he likes, or whether he knew any other goats that c...ould teach me to faint on command What I do know is that if youre in #Alberta, and can #GetToBragg - youve got 1 Saturday left to meet the friendly future mayor! While the event isn't taking place this year, Busk n Bragg is a hamlet wide celebration of this cool towns eclectic talent and personality, with the streets littered by LOCAL musicians and street performers. The hamlet is also full of cool shops, artisans and good food, so if you attend in the future do plan to spend as much time there as you can! #HendrixForMayor #GetToBragg #RoamingRyan #FoothillsFrolicker

Today's #WatercolourWednesday is from a concert I attended in 2015, any idea who it might be? Hints includes having two hit songs that refer to photographs (although the biggest hit was actually semi-related to a live TV suicide!) #WatercolorWednesday #PicsIMade #NoFilter #ButFilter #ConcertPhotos #OperaHouse #IndustrialMusic

Happening across Canada all through September, #CultureDays are a national celebration of arts and culture to stimulate understanding, appreciation and exploration of yourself and your community. Last year, I attended the Bearspaw Nations Eden Valley celebration as part of #AlbertaCultureDays here in the foothills. Through a friend, I was introduced to the elders, leaders, and various residents (of all ages) from the community. I joined them for dinner, a spoken ceremony, a ...powwow, and witnessed some great drum circle experiencescould listen to those drum beats and chants all day. My career has blessed me with opportunities to learn about various cultures, which I enjoy and feel helps me grow and learn. I also use that learning and understanding to put a lot into perspective, and since moving to #Alberta Ive learned quickly that its important that I learn about the land I walk on, and how that came to be. Ive visited since, and will be visiting again, and send a big ish nish (thank you) to the community for having me. At this time it doesnt appear they will participate in Alberta Culture Days, but I suggest getting out to any local events near you, especially if in these current times theyll teach you about somebody else. #EdenValley #TreatyLand #LearnAboutTheTreaties #IndigenousHistory #AlbertaHistory #Foothills #FoothillsHistory #Longview #RoamingRyan #FoothillsFrolicker #PeopleFirst #IshNish

Over the years I've taken many a photograph, but I'm no photographer... While mostly personal, I have had published shots for various clients, with some even looking near professional! More often than not, you'll get something like this.... Maybe it's cause I always have an older phone, or because the fancy digital camera I bought a few years ago took four batteries and three pictures before dying each time...but whatever it is, I do it well. In a world that celebrates mediocrity and stupidity, why embrace my talents? Inspired by images I used when introducing #FoothillsFriday, I'm going to start muddying up the pretty feed of #WatercolourWednesday with my unedited pic-art masterpieces! We'll kick things off with a shot from my official arrival in Alberta, but going forward who knows what you'll see! #IMadeThis #AmateurPhoto #RoamingRyan

Inspired by research from a project I worked on last year, this hike has been on my hit list since I first read about it. Part historical learning, part wanting to cross a river, its all about hiking the Zephyr Creek Pictographs this #FoothillsFriday! By no means a hard hike, you'll start (and end) by crossing the Highwood River and Cataract Creek to find the trail head just east of the creek. From there, the path is pretty easy to follow and its more about the heritag...e value and the sacred ceremonial grounds you pass along the way. The journey itself is all about seeing the pictograph site, one of the largest collections of pictographs in Alberta. According to HeRMIS, the drawings could be prehistoric and most likely pre date 1750 when European trade was introduced to the western world. What youll see along the way (and when you get there) is up to you. I knew of some Indigenous ceremonial grounds and expected mountain views, but didnt expect to find 2 different sites, 100ish cows, or a cool spot for a little refreshmentwhich led to one of our crew finding a #Geocache box. While Id like to tell you all about it, thats not a here thing sorry. Ill instead drop a picture guide after I warn those interested to make sure they plan properly when it comes to the river. A seasonal beast, youd best look up times to cross (when river is low) and pack proper gear if you got them city feet! The Trip in Pictures: 1 Rob & Ryan cross the Cataract, will probably one day be a best-selling #BoyBand 2 Part of the main ceremonial site 3 Crew surveys the view 4 Older ceremonial site not far from the pictographs 5 The main event, or at least the easy ones to find 6 Cheers to packing in and packing out 7 The #CalgaryGeocache box we found, which hasnt had a visitor in a few years 8 The cow that didnt warn us there was a group of 20 or so about to cross paths with us #ZephyrPictographs #RoamingRyan #FoothillsFrolicker #HistoricalSite #CanadasHistoricPlaces #Pictographs #Hikes See more

In the short time I've worked with the Chuckwagon Cafe Restaurant, I've seen a great team that really enjoys what they do too. Were quite a few #FoothillsFriday in and we havent stopped in the Village of Longview Alberta yet! Known now as the village of Longview, the area originally consisted of two towns erected from the #TurnerValley oil boom of the mid 1930s. Little New York (now Longview) down in the valley, and sister town Little Chicago just a little further north along the #CowboyTrail. While Little Chicago didnt make it, youll now get why our first Longview stop is called the Little Appl...e Café and Bakeshop! Home to amazing fresh baked goodies and one the best lattes in the foothills, Gavina also serves awesome meat pies, gluten free goods and the now famous Buttertart Butterhorn! Decorated by local artwork (as many places out here do), the shop is cozy but also offers a small patio and during these strange times, window service as well. If you're thinking about heading this way, it's a great place to start your day before exploring town, or before exploring the incredible Kananaskis and HIghwood area west of the village! #RoamingRyan #FoothillsFrolicker #Longview #Foothills

It's been a year since I last reported on the office, which coincidentally lines up with the last time I remember thinking about finishing it... A lot can happen in a year, however you'll find this list looks bigger than it is: Cleaned up a lot of paper... Thought about what furniture fits Framed up all current artwork Thought about actually finishing it Measured and picked a border Thought about thinking about how to best (properly) mount that guitar... So, that's the office update. Feel like it might happen soon, and if that happens we'll move onto the lounge. #LookAnOffice #OfficeProblems #GetErDone See more

What is, and what gives with #Hashtags on social media? Well, other than being a pound symbol on your keyboard (or technically an octothorpe) initially used to mark numbers, these days it's a word or phrase preceded by a hash sign (#), used on social media websites and applications, to identify messages on a specific topic. Ive also or often used hashtags to cover copyright, disclose client or sponsorship status, reinforce jokes or puns, tone down content, put out secr...et messages, or sometimes just to entertain those who actually read full content pieces! Remember, they must start with # and wont work if you use spaces, punctuation, or symbols. Don't use them excessively (unless youre actually tracking and reviewing), nor should you use popular topics to tag your post that's totally unrelated! On that last note, just because they are popular tags - doesnt mean theyll deliver large masses. Using less popular tags can bring just as many people (and of higher audience quality) to your account but itll take some mixing and trials to see if/what works for you. : Elena Koycheva via Unsplash #Marketing #Advertising #SocialMedia See more

A few weeks back I finally strolled the full #FriendshipTrail that links the Town of Black Diamond and the Town of Turner Valley! An easy little trail that is only 3km long, the paved path offers a lot more than just fresh air and exercise. Known for its varied rock formations and private stopping areas with mountain views, the trail also offers a high chance of seeing wildlife and passes the site of the McPherson coal mine which inspired the town of Black Diamonds name f...rom the rare coal (Anthracite) it produced. Joggers, boarders, and bikers often enjoy the 6km loop as part of their routine, however walkers will have more options as to extending the hike into a full day of fun and food! One of the best ways to enjoy the trail is to start in Turner Valley, home to free parking at the trailhead and lots of great food choices for when you come back. Doing so means you can stroll over to Black Diamond and tour around the various cool shops, historical buildings, and more before returning back to Turner Valley for a choice of Canadian, Chinese, Italian or Mexican cuisine! While I havent walked much, Ive eaten at all these spots they are all amazing! There is more than just restaurants in Turner Valley, access to the Sheep River and more trails connected to the path so options are a plenty depending on your group or goal. Oh, and true to its name, be prepared to say a friendly hello to everyone you pass on the journey! #RoamingRyan #Foothills #Alberta See more

Can't say enough about the entire crew at Turner Valley Golf Club, been a fun group to work with these last two summers! Just one example, this feature they run every week called #TeeBoxTuesday shares golf tips of all sorts. Or in the case of last week, it was more of a 'How Not To...':

As the first place I ever visited when checking out property in the area, I probably should have started off #FoothillsFriday with Marv's Classic Soda Shop! A sucker for a good milkshake (and thinking a place with candy would win over the nephew), the cool retro 50s diner did not disappoint. With more memorabilia than one can fully take in and a working jukebox - this recreation of the golden era of rock n roll hits all the notes! From great homemade food and ice cream to... malts and milkshakes, theres also a selection of candy from today and yesterday thatll create (and fill) a sugar fix for one and all. Since that first stop, Ive gotten to know Marv quite well. Always entertaining, you just never know what you might get into with this fella. I mean sure theres normal stuff like raising a new store flag or taking a load of garbage to the dumpbut, then theres also that time I made a guest YouTube appearance, or that time I was a guinea pig for a soon to be released cola! Like many other folks out here, hes very passionate about what he does and is still very active at the shop every day. Always dreaming and scheming new recipes and ventures, if youre lucky - you might even catch him strumming a tune! If youre planning to hang out in Black Diamond, the shop is worth the stop and is real easy to find with its bright exterior on the 1930s boomtown style building located on the main street.

When you hear 'Out of Home' advertising, you probably picture a sign like the one below. While you aren't wrong, there's more to OOH than just large format billboards and transit advertising! With the introduction of digital out of home, this traditional medium has become more affordable, targeted, and smaller in scale than you think.... Newer options can provide very niche audiences, reputably tracked metrics, and in some cases eye contact (or eye follow) technologies! Some examples include space in gyms, malls, washrooms, convenience stores, elevators, medical centers, arenas, golf courses, and ski hills. #OutOfHome #Marketing #COMMB

In the spirit of #CalgaryStampede last week, this #FoothillsFriday shares a spot that's known for its Wild West historyand a whole whack of stampede posters from years gone by! Starting in 1974, Homeplace Ranch originally operated as a year round working horse and guest ranch in Albertas high cattle country, but since 2013 has shut down the guest ranch and now just offers day rides, riding lessons, and horse related education and awareness programs! There is a lot of ...history in this place, including the aforementioned posters, handmade saddles from before #Alberta was even a province, and so much more. Located in a beautiful and secluded spot between #BraggCreek and #Priddis, rides will take you around the ranch and several thousand acres of crown land where bears, coyotes, moose and other wildlife are frequently seen! Go take a ride (both on a horse and through history) with owner and all around great guy Mr. Mac! #HorsebackRiding #ExploreAlberta #GiddyUp #RoamingRyan

Not going too far on this #Foothills Friday! This view is about 15 minutes from our corporate head office in metropolitan #TurnerValley, and boy oh boy ain't that just a dream? It's also reality, as if you head west out of town on HWY 546 you'll find a one way in/out to amazing Bluerock Wildland Provincial Park and Sheep River Provincial Park in the incredible Kananaskis Country!... Land of the big horn sheep, cows, cowboys, cowgirls, hikers, bikers, and more. I can't tell you how much I love driving and talking to cows... Promoting videos on Facebook or Instagram? Here's some good things to know: Facebook charges on "thru-plays" or to 97% of video time Applies to all videos under :15, or :15 of anything longer... Shorter videos do better generally, ignore 3 min rule The Eyeball Seeing vs. The Eyeball Watching That last one, Facebook says it defaults to thru-play, but in 'budget & schedule' under 'more options', you'll find it most likely set to impression for when you get charged. Change 'Impression' to 'Thru-play' in this section (no matter the length of your video) to help performance! #FacebookTips #VideoTips #SneakyAdsManager

This #FoothillsFriday is going to be dino-mite! While I may be partial to dinosaurs and lame jokes, there's a heck of a lot more going on here than the Jurassic Era. Right near our corporate headquarters in the town of Black Diamond, this shop hosts some of the coolest I've ever seen!... Handmade teak furniture, stone sculptures, carpets and well just look at the pictures - you'll keep finding stuff. What makes it even more interesting is the history and good karma the Black Diamond Gallery prides itself in. I can't do it justice here, but the story includes environmental practices, education, charitable, and real hands on giving through Java, Bali and Indonesia. If you've ever wanted to start a go fund me page, that dinosaur and my yard is an idea I'll just throw out (once you've exhausted donating to better sources that is of course). #BlackDiamond #FoothillsFrolicker

Born from of a love of history, put together with a passion that few would understand, the Museum of Miniatures, Nanton Alberta is a really cool first stop for #FoothillsFriday! While the main feature is the lifelike history of the west from the 1880s to 1950s, you'll also see various wildlife scenes, a circus, dinosaurs, and more at 1/12th the scale! Of note, there's a lot more here than just miniatures....
