News Release Fri, 2021/01/08 - 9:15am Waste Collection Routes Changing February 1... Our waste collection routes have been improved to offer the most efficient use of our resources while better serving all residents, including in new or expanded residential areas of the city. Beginning February 1, 2021, approximately 15,000 households will have a new or modified collection day. This may mean a change in your regular collection day, a change in your recycling week, or both. To find out if your regular collection or recycling collection day has changed go to curbitstjohns.ca/schedules/ and enter your street address. If you haven’t already, now would be a good time to sign up to receive weekly reminders of your waste collection day. Download our free app ‘St. John’s Waste & Recycling’, go to curbitstjohns.ca/schedules/ or call Access St. John’s at 311 or 754-CITY (2489).

Another reminder to the public that our drop off hours are from 930-530, Tuesday to Saturday only. Please do not drop items on our property outside of these hou...rs. We have went public with this concern in the past, though today we do so for different reasons. Upon inspection of our cameras over the past few months, we have discovered that theft of after hours donations is a huge concern. It is so common in fact, that we would never be able to keep up with reporting them all to the police. We have been in communication with the RNC regarding these incidents and are considering what actions will be taken from a legal standpoint.. Our strongest defense against this is being proactive and eliminating the opportunity. The best way to ensure your donation matters and contributes to the work we do is to hand it to an associate during business hours, and to never leave it on the ground outside. Thank you for your support.

City staff is gathering the community’s ideas and feedback to help inform the community-wide energy and emissions reduction plan. Individuals, businesses and all stakeholders are needed to share their experiences and contribute their thoughts to help shape St. John's energy future. We need your input to help identify the low-carbon actions that could be taken to help St. John’s achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Also, to tell us about what is important to you when considerin...g a low-carbon action. Visit our Engage project page (https://www.engagestjohns.ca//we-need-your-input-to-helpsh) and answer these questions to help shape St. John's energy future. Which criteria is more important to consider when selecting actions for St. John's clean energy transition? Which action do you think the community should prioritize to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions?

Happy National Child Day! National Child Day commemorates the United Nations' adoption of two documents centered on children's rights: the United Nations Declar...ation of the Rights of the Child on November 20, 1959, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child on November 20, 1989. We hope you celebrate the day jumping in mud puddles, swinging in trees and playing spotlight. #NCD2020Aecenl #NationalChildDay2020 #PlayBasedLearning #TheRightToBeSeenAndHeard #RightToPlay See more

The Tommy Sexton Centre, where ACNL is located, is home to our Emergency Shelter. The shelter provides low barrier, gender-neutral emergency shelter services to... individuals ages 16 and up. While the holidays can be a time of great joy, they are often a time of additional challenge and stress for our current and former residents. To help provide a small measure of peace and comfort in a safe and supportive environment this holiday season, we are now gratefully accepting the following donations! For more information or to arrange a drop-off (or pickup if needed!), please contact Abigail at 709-579-8656 or Stephanie/Emergency Shelter at 709-579-8348. Thanks in advance!
