The Yellow Room 20.12.2020

It's #WorldMentalHealthDay An increasing body of evidence indicates that mental health issues are responsible for a large proportion of the burden of disab...ility experienced by people across the world. As healthcare practitioners involved in ongoing close personal interaction with clients, we need to be aware of the impact of mental health on the conditions experienced and on how their management can positively influence this aspect of our patient's well being. The correlations between poor mental health and an increased prevalence of musculoskeletal conditions, multiple areas of pain, chronic and preventable diseases, emphasizes the need for an effective approach to the management of these conditions. The involvement of a physiotherapist in mental health treatment is imperative. See more

"As women achieve power, the barriers will fall. As society sees what women can do, as women see what women can do, there will be more women out there doing things, and we'll all be better off for it." - RIP Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the second woman ever appointed to the Supreme Court, as well as a leader, mother, wife, cultural icon, feminist icon, and total badass. She changed the way the world is for American women. For more than a decade, until her first judicial a...ppointment in 1980, she led the fight in the courts for gender equality. When she began her legal crusade, women were treated, by law, differently from men. Hundreds of state and federal laws restricted what women could do, barring them from jobs, rights, and even from jury service. By the time she donned judicial robes, however, Ginsburg had worked a revolution. See more

We've had some great times - online and in person! We all need a break so we are putting a pause on TechTO Health for the next few weeks while we take some time to reflect, reflex, and reset. Stay tuned for great new programming in the fall!

Late to the party here... I've watched the Challenge Accepted movement over the past weeks & have hesitated to post: Are we diluting the # which is being used to support a specific movement (incl. the femicide in Turkey - Domestic violence concerns have surged during the pandemic, when couples are encouraged to isolate themselves which could increase the likelihood of violence.... Others have spoken out against the purpose of the mvmt only to receive relentless backlash claiming they are against women & self-love. Though the portraits have spread widely, the posts themselves say very little. Like the black square, which became a symbol of solidarity with Black people but asked very little of those who shared it, the black-and-white selfie allows users to feel as if they’re taking a stand while saying almost nothing. Influencers & celebrities love these types of challenges because they don’t require actual advocacy, which might alienate certain factions of their fan base. (New York Times, July 27, 2020) However, this movement has raised awareness and I was reminded by a team member today about this image - an image that represents to me the importance of supporting other women & humans in general. Thank you to those who have supported me at the beginning and through my stumbling journey of becoming a CEO and leader (this picture was taken after the first time I presented @embodia to a group - thank you @vinetta for taking the chance on a brand new founder!) A quote from one of my favorite authors @tereraitrent: "When you educate and empower an individual, especially a woman, you have potentially awakened a champion who will change the world. This is not just empty rhetoric; there is well-documented proof. As Kofi Annan, the former UN secretary-general said, "Study after study has taught us that there is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women." Empowered women change the world for the better." Let's use our voices to speak to our truth and use our platforms to uplift one another. See more
