Meet Black Jalapeño. One of our new peppers for the 2021 season. The plant is really pretty and well... we all know Jalapeños. These are almost the same as regular and popular jalapeños. After this stage comes transplanting to their final spot... either into a pot or directly into soil if you have the necessary room. This must be done carefully as anything could shock the seedling. So... here are some simple transplanting instructions:... 1. Make sure the seedling is properly acclimated. 2. Transplant when the sun is not too strong. Overcast days are better. 3. Give the seedling a good drink of water once you transplant. When transplanting it is very important that you try to avoid damaging the roots as much as possible. If you've done it properly the seedling will not show any signs of stress (leaves drooping). When these peppers start ripening it's such an exciting time. Kinda makes you run in the house and tell everyone (and sometimes you will) and it'll be the talk of the day. Lots of people ask about the differences in taste for different colored varieties of peppers. As a pepper grower I know it's not good to let my seedlings/plants produce peppers at such young stage but I'm also a fanatic and plant lover. So in this case I kinda let it go and allowed it to bare fruit...and allowed myself to enjoy this moment. It's soooo exciting to find ripening peppers! Why it's not a good idea to let the plant flower? Well... it simple: 1. The plant will spend energy on producing peppers at a very early stage while it has not reached maturity and its ...full potential. 2. Not having a properly developed root system will dictate how many peppers it will produce and the size of them. Just imagine yourself trying to run a marathon with shoes that are too tight. You won't get very far. Soo... what do you do when your plant starts to flower and its not mature enough? Simple... snip the flowers. Wait until you've transplanted it to a bigger container or a nice place in your garden. I hope this post helps you.
